Hermes destroyed my parcel

If it's anything like here, they don't even bother to ring the doorbell when they leave anything. I usually find out about it from the camera over the door.

This is pretty much exactly what happened. It's almost as if you can get people not doing their job properly in any organisation. Even Royal Mail.

Also be aware of this you might get a bogus text from Royal Mail asking for parcel payment.....This was just flagged up on Jeremy Vine just now be very wary...sophisticated scam gets your details and makes out they're your bank reporting suspicious activity.

There's a screenshot of the signature on the track and trace website, it's just a squiggle and it says "signed for by: festa5".

Anyway as I say it was left on the doorstep, so nothing to do with handing over the PDA.
Not sure about that then, you should have asked the postie. It's not a Royal Mail wide problem that's for sure.

You said "got to hand it to Royal Mail" not "got to hand it to my postie" though, it's a little offensive as a postie to see to be honest.

I've no doubt you and the majority of your colleagues do things properly. Think in this instance though, someone has cut corners and been a bit dodge. Doubt it was our regular postie, she's pretty good.

It's a small village though, so unlikely anything will go missing off doorsteps. But if it had, it wouldn't have looked good given whoever it was made out I'd signed for it!

My grandad had something delivered by them a few years ago. Hermes told us it had been delivered but it hadnt. We asked for proof of it being delivered and they sent us a picture of the side of someone else's house where they had stuffed the parcel behind a wheelie bin. They were adamant it had been delivered correctly so i had to take pictures of the side of my grandads house to prove they were nothing alike. Only then did they accept any fault.

Never had a problem with Hermes our local courier is great and is always helpful and courteous keep up the good work Bry 👍👍

We do have a small number of agency staff in at the minute, or we do at Cannon Park Middlesbrough anyway not sure about other areas. I think most experienced posties would at least make sure you were aware it was out there, because at the end of the day it's not worth the hassle to deal with the complaint about a stolen parcel.

We are generally not allowed to just doorstep a parcel in full view, maybe if a customer puts a note on the door asking for that we might do it.

Only time I've ever had a problem with a delivery was with YODEL, and that was at Christmas time when they attemped to deliver an organ/keyboard thing we'd ordered for daughter.

Basically the top of the box was in tatters, the organ was poking out and had a crack in the casing, and the guy was flustered when I said I was signing for it as a unacceptable as it was a damaged delivery. They sent a collect/replacement via another courier the next working day.

I have used most of them extensively and not really had any other issues - though outgoing there was a lost one via Royal Mail one time but they coughed up via insurance.

We aren't allowed to let you handle our PDA during the current climate, so it's perfectly legitimate for your postie to "forge" as you put it, your signature. What he or she will have probably signed is the word XP1, which is the code we have to use to tell the system that the parcel has been delivered. Maybe next time go out and ask the postie, I'm sure they would have been happy to explain.
In which case, there should be no problem sending an automatic email stating exactly that, rather than a clear falsehood.

Hermes are marvellous ... they have a great online tracking system...

For the last parcel I had delivered by them I could see...

... when it was first collected
... when it arrived at the suppliers local hermes depot
... when it arrived at the hermes national distribution center
... when it arrived back at the suppliers local hermes depot
... when it arrived at the hermes national distribution center for the second time
... when it arrived back at the suppliers local hermes depot again
... when it arrived back at the hermes national distribution center for the third time
... when it arrived at my local hermes depot

I had a delivery from Hermes a while back which was “left in the designated safe place” under which the driver wrote “shed”.
it took me a long time to get the customer service people to understand, there is no shed, or anything which resembles a shed, at the front of my house. I was told several times that if the driver said it’s been left in the shed, then it’s in the nonexistent shed.

NB: Having given up, cutting my loses. It was only something cheap - can’t remember what. It actually got delivered the next day. I asked the delivery driver wtf was yesterday about. He said something along the lines of, wasn’t me mate.

How is it a falsehood if it's a company protocol put in place to stop the spread of a virus between customers and posties? This is the procedure we've had to set up in an unprecedented time.

I sent my granddaughters birthday presents using this company. I got an email from them saying there had been some problem and I should contact them. When I eventually got through on the phone the agent I spoke to said the parcel had been destroyed. I had philosophical/scientific discussion with him as to the difference between damaged and destroyed. He stuck to his guns and said it had been destroyed. I then asked to speak to his line manager he said he didn't have one. You can imagine what my temper and blood pressure was like at this time.
I have since tried to get other numbers of even an email address for this company it is a nightmare.
Have you had a similar with this awful company? Avoid them at all cost!
Shocking outfit, only delivery people I've ever really had an issue with. I always refer to them as Herpes as dealing with them is unpleasant. Would never knock the Royal Mail, good service, our postie has been known to chuck a parcel through the open sitting room window onto a chair. (y) PLUS of course the RM actually employ people, pay NI, pension, sick pay, holiday pay, etc., etc., ...................................

I will almost not buy an item if its arriving via Hermes and more so Yodal (or Nodal😂). These two companies are horrific.

I've had several 'missed' deliveries from Hermes saying I wasn't in. I had been sat in the living room and no fecker knocked. Yodal I've waited days including eventually picking the item up from a depot 15 miles away.

That said I have to say DPD are usually class. Especially if you get the app and you can track them and they give you a 2hr delivery window. It saves sitting in all day. It's actually that accurate that they can't deliver it before the time. So if its say 1100-1300 they will sit outside of its 1059 and can't physically scan it (I imagine it's a pain for them if they get ahead of time).

We're pretty lucky with all the delivery companies where we are, it's a small village and we seem to get the same drivers all the time who always seem to make sure stuff gets delivered in a sensible fashion. Obviously there could be upstream issues but we don't seem to suffer from that. It's only Amazon where it is a bit more dodgy and stuff gets dumped in random places. The Hermes driver is the best for us he even gave some sound advice on laying some turf the other day

There is nothing wrong with the entirely sensible new arrangement for avoiding physical contact - it's the sending of the email which falsely claims the addressee has 'signed' for the delivery which is wrong.

The worst company I have ever had to deal with. So bad, that I am surprised that they are still even allowed to operate as a business.

I had two packages I wasn't overly concerned about the first couple of times I used them, as in timing etc. One turned up ridiculously late, package looked fked and the other was also torn and damaged but luckily the item inside was fine.

The third and final time I used them, (stupidly I hadn't checked that this was the shipping company responsible for getting my item to me, or I wouldn't have purchased) I had purchased a black, studded biker-type jacket, leather .. around £80. It was pre-owned but a specific fit and style I had taken ages to find ... It just never turned up. The seller I got this from had excellent feedback, I trusted them to get the item to me on time. Hermes would give me no information other than the item was "Destroyed" and other jibberish.

I was trying to get some kind of explanation as to how a package, containing a leather jacket can be 'destroyed' as they had put it. Who the hell do they have processing their mail .. how do they do it?? Does it get flung around through a zoo or something during sorting???

Worst company I've ever dealt with. Just do not understand them at all.
