I think distances to London are measured to one of the train stations.
Whoo Deja vu. That was last Friday's argument in the club I go in.If a true Cockney is someone born within earshot of the Bow Bells, what is a true Teessider? Someone who was born within smelling distance of a parmo shop?
I always thought it was to the town hall...Town Halls.
Whoo Deja vu. That was last Friday's argument in the club I go in.
It ended on a close draw, Cannon Street and the North Ormesby clock.
I once heard that a true Geordie can hock into the Tyne from where he was born.If a true Cockney is someone born within earshot of the Bow Bells, what is a true Teessider? Someone who was born within smelling distance of a parmo shop?
General (1960), first one in new maternity ward. Can't get much closer than thati was born in Parkside (Yorkshire) - the answer is - were you born within sound of The Holgate End !!
Hock in the Tyne is all mine, all mine. Hock in the Tyne is all mine!I once heard that a true Geordie can hock into the Tyne from where he was born.
The one I always find strange is travelling down the A19 the road signs show a distance to Newcastle, Sunderland, Darlington and Teesside. Why not Middlesbrough?
Me tooParkside, far too long ago.
Yep, i'm not that keen on the Teesside term in general, bringing individual towns and villages each with their own history under one banner doesn't seem right to me . I don't mean specifically for road signs, but that's where it's noticeable, and you don't generally see it in other areasI too wondered that, very strange.
