Here’s a question that’s puzzled me for years.

When driving home you see the road sign with the distance to Teesside. Where is that measured to? I think distances to London are measured to one of the train stations.

My guess for Teesside is to the Tees flyover.

I don't know about distance/measurements but I was "Home/Teesside" as soon as the beautiful Cleveland Hills came into view.

The one I never understand is coming off the A1 near Darlington that says Teesside 11 miles, you drive 4 miles and the next sign says Teesside 14 miles.

If a true Cockney is someone born within earshot of the Bow Bells, what is a true Teessider? Someone who was born within smelling distance of a parmo shop?
Whoo Deja vu. That was last Friday's argument in the club I go in.

It ended on a close draw, Cannon Street and the North Ormesby clock.

Google is your friend:

Also with 1 minute of investigation it looks like the centre points are decided on a case by case basis. Maybe with a bit more time digging someone could find the centre point of Teesside.

The one I always find strange is travelling down the A19 the road signs show a distance to Newcastle, Sunderland, Darlington and Teesside. Why not Middlesbrough?

I too wondered that, very strange.
Yep, i'm not that keen on the Teesside term in general, bringing individual towns and villages each with their own history under one banner doesn't seem right to me . I don't mean specifically for road signs, but that's where it's noticeable, and you don't generally see it in other areas
