Here’s a question that’s puzzled me for years.

Yep, i'm not that keen on the Teesside term in general, bringing individual towns and villages each with their own history under one banner doesn't seem right to me . I don't mean specifically for road signs, but that's where it's noticeable, and you don't generally see it in other areas

But you do have Tyneside, Wearside, Humberside etc, it's just that they're less recognised than their individual towns and cities.

That's my point. If I was a footie fan travelling to an away game at Middlesbrough would I recognise Teesside or Middlesbrough? I would say it should be Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside on the road signs or Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough. If somebody asks me where I am from I say Middlesbrough and have never said Teesside. It just does not make sense.

Just say North Yorkshire 🎣

I was once told that Teesside was marked to the old ICI, so the Haverton Hill roundabout. I think you only see the Teesside reference on the A19 so that could make sense.

The one I never understand is coming off the A1 near Darlington that says Teesside 11 miles, you drive 4 miles and the next sign says Teesside 14 miles.
I think its something to do with straight lines. You actually drive further away down that road, before you start getting closer.
