Any state/government is compromised of individuals. speaking of governments, the UK government had a key involvement in blocking the formation of a European super league. This same government had a hand to play in the killing of millions of Iraqis, Afghans, Pakistanis and so on. How do we determine what is an acceptable evil and what is not? How do we define the oppression of women? I'm sure if you spoke to the females of Saudi or the middle east, of which I have met many due to the nature of my career, they will tell you they have it good.

The middle east, specifically Saudi, Qatar, UAE are very much countries of the future and people from the west are snapping up the opportunity to live there. Low crime rates, high pay, low tax, nice weather etc very much unlike the UK at present.

Nice weather ? Large sections of the Middle East have weather breaking 50 degrees Celsius and it is going to get worse there . The wife used to be an air hostess and loves hot weather and has visited Qatar on a flight , and she said the weather was extremely uncomfortable to be in.


Middle East women might be ok with their laws , but asking western women to put up with strict Islamic law and be in that weather is just taking the ****

If you can't see the difference between Boris Johnson taking credit for what fans did and a massive state backed sportwashing project, I can't help you.

Hope you, Richard Keys and Andy Gray have a great time out there. But I quite like my freedoms, however flawed they may be.

Came back from Bahrain yesterday after 4 months out there.
It's 40⁰ C plus (with 'real feel' sometimes into the 50s) every day at the minute. From November up until March it's very pleasant, and can be fairly cool after sunset.

Very conservative in Saudi except for Thursday, Friday and Saturday when they all pile into Bahrain for sex, drugs and rock and roll.

He's 32, I'd say that's a good few years past his prime.

He's still a quality player, and they're already tempting some good players from middling clubs, but I'd still say almost every big name from the big clubs is an aging player or a player that's unwanted by the manager.
 
It’s developing into an interesting situation in Saudi Arabia. I’d like to know what the end plan is from PIF and Government. Do they genuinely think their domestic league can become as big as European leagues, or it more about raising profile with the aim of attracting non-oil related businesses.

If you’re a player being offered massive sums to go there it will be difficult to turn down. Tax free, the chance to live in Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Bahrain, play in modern grounds and train in good facilities. I suspect many players might already have properties in region and probably know there’s a decent ex-pat set-up. Plus the Saudis really do like their football.

I think you’re splitting hairs a bit to be honest mate. He’s 32 which is past most players’ primes as I said, but he has just won the treble starting 35 games, 46 appearance in total, scoring 15 goals. The point is that he is hardly someone just going for a pay day because he isn’t good enough anymore. If he’d joined almost any other side in the PL this summer he’d probably be walking into their starting XI. 15 goals in 35 starts winning the treble, his prime must have been something pretty special then, not as if Pep has been trying to force him out given the minutes he gets (played more then Foden).

Henderson could easily have been playing for England next summer. Another one who is still easily good enough whose career probably peaked only 2 years ago.

Agree, Mahrez is absolutely quality. He is way too good to be leaving the premier league right now. It’s a shame. I’m quite gutted to see him leave and same with Henderson, no way he should be doing that now when he’s still in the England fold

You can still be a good player when you're well past your prime.

City getting £35m for a 32 year old is good business for them.

On the subject of Jordan Henderson the amount of tax free money is obscene. A few months ago I was in a country where millions don’t have a pot to p1ss in and I see Saudi throwing £750k a week at old footballers. And he can fook right off with the rainbow laces bullsh1t.
