Hearing aid

Thanks for the replies. I should say I will get in touch with doctors and get it checked, but I just wouldn't(doctors and things like that give me panic attacks)so will just live with it until I go deaf of pop my clogs lol.
You do learn to live with it (habituate), but mine went up again crazily about 3 years ago, so had to make more lifestyle changes to cope with it. Had already stopped drinking, as alcohol makes it worse, but had to cut out all processed / junk food and sugary stuff (sweets, fizzy drinks)....and I keep extremely fit & drink loads of water.. Basically the healthier I keep myself, the better I can cope with it.

I heard something on the radio about hearing aids for tinnitus. They play a low frequency buzz that interferes with the tinnitus. Don't know anymore than that but it may be with looking into.
Have heard something along them lines also. A German company have come with a method which has a 40% success rate. Basically implants behind the ears transmitting a noise which disrupts the brain signals that are causing the tinutus. Costs about £10k but might be worth the risk in the future if mine goes up again

Couldn't remember the detail but that's the same device, sounds very familiar.

Interestingly...

Senheisser - well respected HiFi headphones and earphones part of their business was purchased by Sonova (hearing aids) for £200m, one of the chief aims of Sonova is to integrate technologies of bluetooth hearing aids with Hi-Fi to make a device you can use daily that can just flip to being a Hi-Fi Earphone without having to change anything.

I like that as I wear wireless earbuds all day on zoom calls for work.

Also got hearing aids for first time 3 days ago , needed them for ages How blooming noisy are crisp packets, and dogs walking on laminate floor! My GP referred me to Specsavers for hearing test and NHS hearing aid. I was on a 59 week waiting list to get a hearing test in an NHS hospital, then was told up to 2 year to get hearing aid. Sorted within a couple of weeks with Specsavers in Mbro.Early days but I think I will end up upgrading to better aids apparently £1500- £2000 range.
40 years in chemical/ oil industry, wear your ear protection younguns!

Good thread with advice and stories. I have been reluctant to do anything about it because I get by. I will probably reconsider now.

I've had tinnitus for years. It's there pretty much all the time but doesn't normally bother me, except for the wee small hours (now!) when the world is very quiet. At such times it's like living with an old fax machine, squealing and screeching away in my head. Serves me right for all the years of being in bands that habitually - in the grand tradition of Nigel Tufnel - turned it up to 11.

Mine is like them old style whistling kettles. When it spikes at its worst, its practically impossible to get to sleep. Cant take sleep tablets or booze, as that makes it even worse the next day. My best recent buy has been bluetooth headband headphones, allowing me to nod off listening to the sound of gentle crashing waves, wind or a tropical rainstorm (y)
