Hearing aid

My ears are fooked. Mastoid op years ago and now my left is on its way out. Got an aid earlier this year and have now been told my eardrum has collapsed, something a DR failed to diagnose, took a private ENT specialist to tell me. With the NHS up the swanny you may have to look at Specsavers, only take a week or so from mould to delivery if you get an in ear job, but it's not cheap.

Does that mean the aid isn't working for you?

Just got them fitted today. I'm 53 and years of DJing & clubs has phoooked my hearing at the high frequencies

When the audiologist switched them on I could literally hear the birds singing for the first time in years
Years of working in Heavy Fabrication and steel erecting, regular at the Rock Garden as a youth etc phooked mine also. My Tinutus started about 10 years ago, and apparently not hearing certain frequencies is one of the causes. Hearing aids help me. When I first got them fitted I was jumpy as phook the first few days. Creaky floorboards got sorted out straight away, and yep, great to hear birds again

I am deaf in one ear and partial in the other. I keep thinking about hearing aids.

Snap. I had hearing tests just before COVID hit us. I’ve lost some low frequency in my good ear and the aids would be no good for me.

You lucky buggers can hear in stereo it’s just mono for us👂

I feel your pain I can't tell what direction noise is coming from.

I have like a buzzing/ringing in my ears, is that Tinnitus? It's worse when it's quiet I have to sleep with TV on normally with some low volume music as it is hard to get to sleep due to it without background noise as a distraction. Also certain pitch noises really hurt my ears. Had an hearing test done about 14 year ago and had some mild hearing loss then.

Yea that’s tinnitus . Had it since I was about 15. If I go to a pub or loud place like the cinema then the ringing when I get back home would drive a sane person crazy if I hadn’t learned to relax and accept it will go in about 24 hours . Wierdly noises like a jet engine really makes my ears ring in a strange way . I’ve got ringing alll the time but generally I’ve learned to block it out. Sometimes i find it comforting ive had it that long

Thanks for the replies. I should say I will get in touch with doctors and get it checked, but I just wouldn't(doctors and things like that give me panic attacks)so will just live with it until I go deaf of pop my clogs lol.

Specsavers do hearing tests in the REALLY unlikely chance you cannot see your Doctor this decade.

Yes, it is. You could try using ear drops for a few weeks but you're probably stuck with it until you go deaf or pop your clogs!
I heard something on the radio about hearing aids for tinnitus. They play a low frequency buzz that interferes with the tinnitus. Don't know anymore than that but it may be with looking into.
