Hayden Hackney

Does it matter?

When they're fit they'll be back in the reckoning, if they set a date for the comeback and it doesn't work out there'll be more moaning from the needy section.

The players are injured and will be back when they're not.
Would be nice to know a round about time frame. We have had this before with McGree where it was expected to not be long and then it turns out he’s out for weeks on end. Hopefully not the same with Hackney.

Well, you could wait for the club to actually admit there's a schedule and a predication but I wouldn't count on it. (Unless of course it's a season). The level of secrecy is right up there with the next mission for the SAS. Our much vaunted medical department seems capable of turning a two match absence into 3 months with alarming regularity.
Agree that it is annoying when there’s no real return date mentioned for players who are injured. Either they genuinely don’t know or don’t want other teams to know the situation. I really can’t remember a season like this for injuries though - two key players out for the season and lots more with long term ones. We have been exceptionally unlucky so far this season on the injury front.

RM, has plantar fascitis, wife has same thing , for a footballer its possibly the worst type of thing , injections can mask it but it can come & go with alarming regularrity, makes it virtually impossible to play football i would imagine

Hopefully they find a way to sort it but it may be a long term thing if severe

Injuries are part and parcel of the game, guess we need to get on with it. There certainly wasn’t anything we should fear from Ipswich should our paths cross again. Need to hang in there until January, current run of injuries reminds me of Lennie’s last season and as he would say ‘We are down to the bear bones’

Ref Hackney - we have lost every game he has missed bar one - probably our most influential player simple as that.

Think that's also true of Coburn too isn't it?
I think we've really missed him the last 3 or 4 games due to his hernia issue.

Edit--slightly different we've only won one game that Coburn hasn't started. Won 7 he has started.

jones, mcgree, hackney, smith or dijk, obrien, lenny, paddy and forss would have all made a big difference on their own.

fry looked worse than clarke. he hasn't kicked a ball for a year hardly and was pulling fry out of it all the time. once clarke is fit and we have fully fit right backs. fry wont get a look in anymore.

barlaser is weak, back up player at best. obrien and hackey would dominate howson and barlaser.

forss, mcgree, jones i'd rather see any of them on rather than greenwood and rogers.

engle, people round me(season ticket) think we dont pass to him when he's in acres because hes...erm not very good. i'm starting to agree. hes not impressing me. very poor every week.

basically we have a squad which doesnt seem massively different in class when you look at it on individual ability, but collectively the guys out are far stronger when playing together than the team we saw saturday.

Better get used to it as I don't think he'll be here next season. Not unless we somehow manage to sneak promotion and that is a massive task.

Coburn is knacked but playing through it. A centre forward is a priority in January because he needs surgery.

McGree is indefinite.

Hackney, there’s a prediction for how long a hamstring takes to heal and there’s reality.

Had high hopes for Barlaser , but sadly he is very sloppy & one paced

Yeah, good teams are all over him and just run right through him.

I wouldn’t mind if he was like a championship Pirlo and pinging the ball all over from deep, but even his passing is sloppy at times (although he is capable of a good ball on occasion)

Agreed does good stuff but erratic & not consistent enough ....& pace kills him

Carrick talked about all the injured players last week including O'Brien and suggested he may be ahead of schedule (e.g. not out for the season) but is still a way off. The suggestions of secrecy baffle me, perhaps just listen properly to the press conferences?

Not having the missing players are starting to get me down - I am struggling to remember having so many of the first 11 missing - Lenigan, Smith, McNair, Hackney, Jones, McGree, O`Brien - 7 out of my starting 11.

I can't remember such a time.

May as well include Coburn in that list as it looks like he’s not going to be playing much if he has a hernia

This was an area we were thin in numbers in last season. With Mowatt gone we only had 3. With Hackney out it's 2.
We definitely miss Hackney, and it's going to be a lot to ask Howson to play every minute of every game for the next month with no cover.
Barlaser isn't as good as Hackney, but we'll have to get on with it. Ironically Barlaser was playing well and in on merit until he was rested after his child was born
Barlasser needs chasing as soon as we have a decent replacement because he is clearly not up for it after getting his big opportunity with Hackney out….
