Have you ever caught the ball during a game?

Stood in the Holgate around 1970 watching the pre match warm up a ball soared over my head then rebouded off the crush barrier behind and hit me on the back of the head sending me and my glasses sprawling towards the pitch much to the amusement of my mates and other bystanders.
 
Probably not the smartest of ideas for a fourth division game, but I've stood behind the goal at Feethams and had to duck as the ball hit the back of the stand and rebounded.
 
Not in game but away at Wigan (the game Dave Whelan was getting tortured for anti-semetic comments) one of our players smashed a shot into the stand in the warm up which hurtled straight towards my face.

I'd just had a badly broken nose fixed that week and as the ball came at me I managed to duck to avoid another hospital visit and inadvertently headed the ball about 20 yards back onto the pitch and got a big cheer. I took the undeserved credit for a superb header and slumped back in my seat with whiplash and a headache.
 
The Barnsley game away last game of the season where they thought they had made the play offs “Always look on the bright side of life” fans on the pitch and a very embarrassed PA announcer !!

In the warm up behind the goal boro player takes a shot flies into the away end and my 14 year old mate takes it full force in the face and an almighty cheers goes up and I almost **** myself , that’s the closest I have been to ever catching a ball during the game!!!
 
Came close in the chicken run once, the ball was narrowing straight towards my head. I was 15 years old, I'd look like the coolest kid in the block, I was primed, I was ready. My head was locked back to head it straight into Parky's arms. Then some fat old codger in front of me reached up and grabbed it. W@nker!
