Have you ever caught the ball during a game?

I was watching some sports funny moments on one of the sky channels.

In the World Cup in Japan, a call goes into the crowd and this guy pulls out a marker pen and autographs the ball!!! Bizarre but funny.

The ball has never ever come close to me ever!!

Greenwood’s sitter yesterday went to the bloke sat next to me (back row, first tier of north stand… which tells you how bad a finish it was 😂)

When I sat on front row of the east stand, I threw the ball back to Vegard Heggem of Liverpool for a throw in. Just googled it, must have been around 2000 - 23 years ago 😳

When I had my ST in the North Stand, managed to get a hand on a ball that was....ummm mis hit.

Block 21 about 20+ rows back. Can't remember the player. Late 90s......🤔🤔🤔

Yes at Ayresome Park East Stand just behind the goal. Throw the ball towards the corner unfortunately the Ref pointed to the other one 🙈

In the first game I went to, 9 years old, Stockport County in the cup in 1997, the ball was going straight to my Dad on the first row. He had his hands up ready to catch it, all excited as I was assuming he was going to pass it to me. Some doyle comes running over, dives in front of him and punches it in to the stand. Never been close since 😩

Only once must of been the late 70's behind the goal in the Family enclosure at Ayresome.
I will have been about 12 hit just past the post by Stuart Boam I remember how soft the ball felt.
When we go now with the family we always have a £1 bet among ourselves on who gets to touch the ball .
No one has claimed it yet, reading this sounds like we need to up the anti.

I did get hit by a ball before the game at Bristol a couple of years ago had my back turned to the pitch during the warm up so I dont know who the culprit was.
This didn't count for our bet. We have strict rules that it must be during the game.;)

Red Faction stole a ball from West Brom yesterday. They didn’t even catch it either. It went into the disabled area.

No but I was pushed off the front wall of the chicken run as a 10 years old by John Craggs. Hereford in the cup on a frosty day and he tried to stop a ball going out of play but couldn’t stop and put his hand out to stop himself. By the time I got up some other kid had pinched my place 🙄😂

I was once sat right next to Boros dugout in a cup game, right on the first row, I think against Watford in about 2000, ball bounced over the hoardings and I just swung at it with my foot, without my bum even leaving the seat.

That’s the one and only time for me, just remember thinking as a 13/14 years old how effing hard the ball was, like kicking a rock

Headering the ball back onto the pitch is where it's at.

A couple of seasons ago I was watching a game at Home Park. A few minutes into the 2nd half the ball is pinged off the pitch and, as casually as you like, it was headed back onto the pitch by a fella holding a cup of hot drink in either hand who was making his way back to his seat.

He got a massive cheer 🙂

Never caught a ball. Many moons ago in the Strachan days, I used to sit behind the goal in the North stand. Around Row 10-12 from memory.

Tarmo Kink was doing shooting practise before the teams went back down the tunnel before the game.

He belted one of his shots (as always!) and it flew over the bar. It was tracking towards me and my mate and just swerved into the path of my mate. He was a bit unawares but managed to lift his leg up last second towards the ball and it smashed him on the thigh. Left him with a big red mark. Lucky he managed to get his leg in the way as I’m pretty sure it was on track to smash him in the Michael Ballack’s!

Could have been a rough trip to A&E! 🤣

Not quite a catch but a good story from the cricket all the same. The odds on it must be pretty slim!

Freddie Flintoff dropped by his Dad in the crowd!

You want to try heading clear a pumped up to bursting mitre multiplex from a goal kick in the Teesside league on a cold January afternoon 😅

First game back in the old 1st division under Jack Charlton
I was in the bob end with my Grandad.
The players came out at the start and kicked autographed balls into the stands.
John Craggs kicked to wards us.
A few went to grab it and Grandad went to the floor came back up with both ball and a cut on his head.
Craggs has scuffed Willie Maddrens name when he kicked it
Grandad said put the ball away, if we got to Wembley we would go the Maddren and ask him to sign it again and try for a couple of Wembley tickets.
We lost in the fa cup quarter finals ball.

Only once - a FK skidded and bounced up to me in the front row. It didn't occur to me to try and catch it, but I just reached out and patted it back down onto the pitch.

I've caught foul balls twice at baseball games (one catch was very simple, but the other was a very fine one-handed effort, if I say so myself). I've never caught a HR, but I once got a HR ball by default as I was the only person left in the outfield seats after a long rain delay and it landed about ten rows away from me.

At Ayresome I always stood in the North East corner with my Dad and then at the Riverside been quite high up - so never had it come near me. Until the UEFA cup final when I was in about the 7th row. Threw it back to the full back so it could have been Dani Alves or Stuey Parnaby!

My brother was once hit by a Robert Fleck mis directed shot during the warm up in the East End at Ayresome.
