Have the club let Carrick down?

Hull City & Ipswich are investing why can't Boro? It feels we hamstrung by Gibson & his long-term mistakes.

Maybe the time to buy players is not in January when there's not much on offer and clubs know you've got £10 million from a sale.

The reality is that the club bleeds money and even after all the sales, the debt moves by Gibson and reducing the wage bill we are going to be strapped for cash.
All those touting "3 year FFP cycles", "headroom", "warchest" etc are in for a shock in the summer I reckon. I don't think we are going to be able to buy anyone who'll come in and boost the quality of the squad instantly and it wouldn't come as a surprise if we sold Hackney, Jones, McGree and VdB. We'll likely see a repeat of last summer and have to hope that we can form a team out of what we have at the close of the window.
That last job is down to Carrick and if the club decide to stick to this new vision then they 100% have to supply him the players who are capable of playing the way he wants.
Leaving aside the tactics, line up and subs from yesterday's debacle, the overriding impression of the available squad is that it lacks pace, movement and passing ability. These are all things we had in spades last year and that made us a joy to watch. If we can't find players with those qualities within our budget then Carrick will need to either change his way of playing or we'll have to seek someone who can make a team out of what we have.
Unless everyone is on the same page then you'll never go anywhere. If we have chosen Carrick as the one to get us up then we have to absolutely provide players with the skills to play as he wants us to. We did it with Karanka and it was successful.

It’s Carrick's first managerial job, he is going to make mistakes. Hopefuls he learns a lot from those mistakes and improves going forward.

I believe so.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he left in the summer. We’ve sold Tav, Spence, Akpom and Rogers for approx £40 million over last couple of years, and we brought in an untested gamble in Lath and some young ‘prospects’ and untested-at-this-level players from inferior leagues. We had to change plans and cancel Coburn's loan right at the end of the window, (which would have probably been the best move for his development), because we only had one striker on the books! (Not counting Forss, cos they clearly don’t see him as a striker, despite giving him minutes up top yesterday).
Despite Coburn and Lath being crocked for large chunks of the season, and us having tried various attacking midfielders up top over past few months, we went through the January transfer window without addressing the striker issue. Yes, we’ve had appalling injuries that have hugely impacted our season. Yes we’ve had a couple of successes in the market in RDVB and Dieng (why the **** isn’t he playing?!?!) Yes Carrick’s selection hasn’t been great sometimes - Hackney out of position, Dieng on the bench when supposedly fit, etc
Ultimately though, when all is said and done, we’ve got no focal point of the team. Not enough reliable/tried and tested/good enough strikers. We frequently are chasing games and ‘batter’ teams in the second half, and by that I only mean dominating possession in and around the box, but without creating much in the way of shots on goal or proper chances. We’ve asked Carrick to get us promoted and then we’ve lost 45+ goals from the team in Archer, Akpom and Ramsey and we’ve replaced them with youngsters, projects and untested players. We’ve tied one hand behind his back and blindfolded him. This seasons failings lie squarely on our lack of investment and recruitment where it matters, and if I was Carrick I’d be mightily cheesed off. Think this will end up proving to have been a missed opportunity to achieve something with a very good up and coming manager. Ho hum.

*Probably win the next three games and then we’ll all be talking about play offs again, like the silly mugs we are. Nothing but disappointment awaits us this season. Potentially a summer that is all about the loss of Hackney, RVDB, McGree and Carrick. I know I’m being pessimistic and I’m normally a very optimistic Boro fan, but I’m really feeling massive ‘what could have been’ vibes at the minute, and the blame shouldn’t lie with Carrick.
One thing I'm extremely confident of if we won't win the next 3 games, people wojld still bang on about play offs even if we were bottom.

In a word yes, MC has been let down. Recruitment has not been good enough overall. Failing to bring in two centre forwards in the summer was a huge mistake, and then again choosing not to bring any in during the January window was just plain stupid when both of our only recognised forwards were injured. It was basically writing the season off half way through when we were still in with a shout of the playoffs. It’s hugely disappointing and there is another huge rebuild required in the summer. I’d like to see more pace and athleticism in the side as our build up play is far too slow and ponderous at times - we’ve become too easy to play against and teams know if they high press us we will make mistakes and gift goals. Get it sorted Boro

At least after watching Carrick post match interview he excepts the blame for yesterday & fell short of telling us of the players that let him down ie Glover his days are numbered now @ boro & wont see the light of day again .

Our recent history suggests we don't start buying anyone early in the summer window either, we are usually shockingly short 2 or 3 games into a new season & as a result continually playing catch up

The smart clubs would have had a deal agreed for someone before we sold Rodgers. If not he's not for sale. Can't sell and not replace especially when we actually needed a striker in August that we didn't get.

Plymouth yes Plymouth turned down lazio so don’t tell me we couldn’t turn down Villa

The club, the gazette and the echo must all be in cahoots to lie to you about it then

The club have never spoken about it, the Gazette and Echo said we rejected the opening bids because they were too low.

That's not rejecting out of hand, that's a negotiation.

The Rogers sale was the biggest tell about our future business for me. Yes, we made a profit, but he had been here only 6 months and was showing signs that he was developing nicely. To cash in on him like we did was a signal that money is needed more than talent. He'd have still been a saleable asset come summer and we'd have got the rest of the season out of him to boot. No point developing players if we let them go at first sign of interest and don't actually see them pay off on the field.
I hope I'm wrong, but this new approach seems designed to keep the club afloat first and foremost and any success on the pitch will be entirely dependent on getting lucky in the market more than it will come from buying better players than what we already have.
I think this summer will test the patience of the fan base even more than last.
