Halloween callers

No callers last night, amazingly.

We only give out sweets to young children out with their parents anyway, had multipack bags of Skittles (Darkside) to give out and now they're mine....muah ha ha

We took our kids out round ours and they had a great time. Got loads of sweets and we left a tub outside ours while we were out. In reality we've just swapped a few tubs of our sweets for the ones the kids have brought back but they had fun which is the main thing.

We had loads of people coming to our estate that don't live on it. I do think it would be better if people stayed round their own way more or it's just making it more expensive / less to go round for the people nearby and those other places might become better as well. You shouldn't have to go far. I had also assumed older kids would see it as uncool and would be embarrassed to be out doing it but there were quite a few out. Just seems odd seeing them doing the same thing as the small kids. They were all really polite though and were having a good time.

We did have some older kids come through we noticed on the doorbell camera that just grabbed way more than they should. I'm sure back in the day though everything would have been grabbed and all the pumpkins would have been stamped on so at least it wasn't anything terrible.

By there's some miserable buggers on here. It's just about letting kids enjoy themselves! Luckily we didn't encounter any of these types last night, my two kids had a great time and have enough sweets to last til this time next year. Met some lovely people while out and about, I think it's great and brings the community together.

We were down in the marina in the early part of last night. Having some drinks and tapas after playing an afternoon round of golf with friends.

The council had organised some events for families in one of the squares in the centre of town. Including a prize for the best dressed family. Plus there was a haunted hospital event set up in the pensioners centre.

There was a large number of dressed up kids of all ages and adults walking in both directions past us in the bar. As the two event areas were about 100m either side of us.

Later, when we got home to our quieter part of town nobody knocked on the door. For the last couple of years we have stopped buying sweets as all the families are out and about in the centre of town.

If people are driving to the more afluent neighborhoods because there's more chance of free sweetsit sums up the typical society we have today.
There's always someone who ruins it for the rest .

Not sure that's just today's kids. In the 1960s I lived in Linthorpe but we went to my aunts in Nunthorpe to go trick or treating. More likely to get a thruppney bit or a tanner up there instead of a penny or get lost around ours. All spent on fireworks for the 5th of November.

I live in a city centre so unsurprisingly no callers, but I had some sweets on hand in case.

Noticed someone on the fourth or fifth floor of the building had a pumpkin out on their balcony but not sure how they'd participate. Maybe throw some sweets off the balcony when someone buzzes the intercom?

I love seeing all the little ones and not so little in their outfits and really impressed when mam/dad dress-up too.

Quite right. If they can afford cars, they can afford sweets. Let them sell their cars, OLED teles, Sky subscriptions and give up vaping. Then they might be able to look after their children.

I imagine they’d throw the pumpkin at them.

Did you have a pumpkin out? My sister was telling me that there's an 'unwritten' rule now that you only knock on doors with pumpkins/decorations, thus showing you want to play the game.

(Good if true, as I'm not interested, and realised I had no 'treats' in last night, but didn't fancy getting my front door egged)!!

Edit: Keeping all the lights off apart from the room I was in at the back of the house probably helped too! Scrooge! 🎃💩
There’s no room for a pumpkin for all the pampas grass.😉
