Hackney and Fry 'Weren't too close' to being fit today

I never saw Greenwood play centre midfield myself, but the general consensus from Leeds fans before we signed him was that he was a decent player UNLESS you play him centre mid, where he was absolutely awful.
He has the energy levels and controlled aggression to the play there in an emergency, this is an emergency. We have 6 fit players that can play that left wing position, Silvera, Bangura, Engel, Rogers, Gilbert and Greenwood. So dropping him into midfield to cover for Howson at RB isn't a big issue for me, not ideal, but not a massive problem. Would prefer Hackney fit though

I tend to agree. Not ideal, but with injuries and suspensions.

Welcome back btw.

I'm still a fan of playing your best players in their best positions and filling the gaps around them. Bring in a right back or fill the gap, i wouldn't move howson out of the middle.

Are people seriously discussing Sam Greenwood playing central midfield against the top scorers in the league? Central midfield in our team is a specialist position and should be the absolutely last place on the field we play somebody out of position.

That's the point though, it wouldn't be out of position, he has played there before (which is why it is being discussed). Whether he would be any good is another question.

I am fairly confident in saying he is unlikely to have played as part of a 2 in a 4231. Playing as a number 8 in a Bielsa team is a world away from the way we play.

why play so many players out of position when you can just play a left full back at right full back.
you're playing 3 players in bangura, greenwood and howson out of position when you could just play one.

And lets be honest Barlaser and Greenwood just get totally over run in the midfield.

The fax machine breaks down?
The legend of the Fax Machine malfunction was nothing to do with 96/97. That misconception is due to a mixup of communication-related mishaps.

The fax machine malfunction mishap manifested itself in 95 and prevented us from registering new signing Phil 'big phil' Whelan in time to play that season.

And another thing, it wasn't even Keith Lamb's fax machine. It was the fax machine at the other end of the line in Ipswich that was tractored.

Every player in that team has played that role at some point in their career

Doesn't mean it's their position. Greenwood may have filled in there before as with Howson who has played plenty there but its not their position and i'm pretty much certain they wont on Saturday.

Crooks has played holding midfield, up front, centre back and left wing before at rotherham i wouldn't be happy with Carrick if he played crooks in any of those positions.

The way the squad looks we need as many players as possible in their natural best positions

I don't think anyone knows saturdays team.

Crooks as a holding midfielder, has he played that with us? must be at least a couple of years since he played that role, maybe when he got sent off for rotherham against us. It certainly isn't his natural position.

8 of the side I put forward as an option are in their natural positions, you could switch Bangura for Silvera and make it 9. The other 2 or 3 places are players that have played in those roles before/recently.

Bottom line is:
- we don't have a fit RB
- we only have 2 fit natural CM (and one may need to play RB)
- we have about 6 players who can play LW, we may need to repurpose those.

It's a scratch side, with players covering, however we play it.

Playing people like Howson or Bangura out of position has to be the last resort. If non of the injured players are fit then why not play Agyemang at right back, the rest of the team would pick itself?

This has to be a better option. If we had a decent centre mid to put in then yeah put Howson at RB or CB. But we don't, so use a young RB rather than weakening two areas of the pitch.

RB is out of position for Agyemang to be honest he’s a CDM, I think he played RB in emergency for city u18s but he definitely CDM for us

i would be very surprised if this wasn't the team on sat with what we expect to be available. Unless we obviously have some players back.

Agyemang is a right back isn't he? Certainly played there in his career. I seem to remember he looked ok in pre season.
I know it didn't go brilliantly for him at Pools, but then Hackney didn't set the world on fire at Scunthorpe so it doesn't necessarily mean he's a bad player.

I'd bring Agyemang in on the bench. I think we will have one of Fry or McNair fit.... so RVDB - Fry/McNair - Clarke - Bangura, no real issues as a back 4 but no subs.... so Agyemang fits the fill.

Howson Barlasar CM - Assuming Hackney is still out.

Jones and Forss are both out, but we have Greenwood, Rogers, Silvera, Gilbert and Crooks - surely one of them can play that side.

I believe he played RB most of his time at Man City but he signed for them as a CdM, I think they had injuries. He has played every game for us and Hartlepool as a CDM I believe.
