Great British Menu - Plant Based Chef

Anyone been watching that astonishing chef this week?
Michael O Hare gave him three 10s

The Chef even won the ‘fish’ course with a 10/10 dish

Looking forward to trying his food when the restaurant opens.
He was on last year and was fantastic then but limited thinking chef judge kicked him out at the earlier stage before he got the chance to cook for the 4 judges

He’s super talented 👌

I reckon those judges might just be in the 'limited thinking' camp too
Big Tom and plant based?????

Who is he and where is his restaurant located?

Possibly, as renowned Michelin star chefs in the uk and Europe switch to fully plant based menus people like Tom are kind forced to catch up or wake up
Diet is extremely important and what we put in our bodies results in how healthy or not we are.
People are slowly realising this because no body wants to be unwell
The important chefs of today have an important role to play in educating the public at large
Have you noticed that one of the courses is exclusively vegan this year ?
That said, my Mrs has been extensively, researching some of the plant-based products such as the elmlea cream which has a plant-based option and some of the chemicals in these products are just as harmful so it’s a bit of a minefield out there.
To make matters worse, dietitians in the UK are just not up to speed with how to maximise your diet. In terms of recognising the vegan products that really will help with your dietary health.
Then you have the lobbyists behind-the-scenes for the dairy industry and meat industry, paying for studies to be carried out to contradict other vegan stories on diet lifestyle to deliberately cause confusion amongst people.
Then you have big pharma who just want us to all be a little bit unwell so they can keep making their billions of profit on the back of people being ignorant.

Yes it is good to see a plant based course - must admit I've been underwhelmed with that part so far.

In general plant, meat, flexi etc the 'diet' minefield is, as you say, muddied as hell. Far too many 'interested parties' (lobbyisits) making shed loads out of unhealthy food.

In terms of plant based dairy and creams - oatly, coconut collaborative and koko (their greek yoghurt is great) are our go to.

Not tried the Elmlea but just had a look at the ingredients for their 'natural' cream. I thought it would be quite simple but lots of stuff in that too.

And just look at the tragic news about Dave Myers’s today - a chef and I always wonder if he changed his diet immediately to a strict alkaline one packed with fruit - excluding diary and meat - how this would’ve impacted his cancer growth 🤔

My dad has prostate cancer and has done for nearly 20 years with initial secondary cancer in his liver and bones. He immediately changed his diet and followed a book by Jane plant (who survived cancer for a number of years)
He’s kept his diet strict and is 80 and in good health, James cook consultants are astounded by his progress.
I just don’t understand why there aren’t more studies done or when diagnosed with cancer people have the opportunity to do something different and go on a radically different diet to see if it makes a difference.

There is no scientific evidence to support an alkaline diet. It's another fad diet by someone selling a book that does nothing but makes you think about what you are eating (which is a good thing). If you switch to healthy food, whether it is acidic or alkaline, it will be good for you.

Anecdotal evidence is not reliable.

Medicine has come a long way and cancer survival rates are getting better all the time but it is because of medicine, not diet. Looking after yourself, eating healthily and exercising is definitely recommended but restricting yourself to a specific diet with no supporting evidence is unnecessary.

I've just watched it...his dessert looked epic!! Think sometimes they should put the dish up and then tell them ingredients AFTER tasting to do away with the prejudices against certain foods (unless of course allergies etc).
I know that I would try a lot more things if I didn't know what was in them before hand.

There are 40 restaurants worldwide in the Michelin guide that identify as vegan and only 6 have stars. That's out of 144 with 3 stars, 482 with 2 stars and 2852 with 1 stars from an overall directory of 16,000. I hardly think he is swimming against the sea of change.
