Graham Thorpe has died

Sad news. Think he left his role coaching England due to illness but don’t think details were released about what the issue was. One of the few top quality players we had in his time playing for the national team.

Really enjoyed watching him bat, a truly great batsman for Surrey and England, by all accounts a lovely man too, I think I’m right in saying he captained England too. 55 is no age, life can be so unfair, times like this really do hit home in our inner psyche. Rest In Peace Graham.

Not quite true. He left his role as he was to become the Afghanistan Head Coach but fell ill before starting. He had been a coach in Australia and was highly regarded.

Was England’s best and most exciting batsman/hope during what was a pretty testing era. Saw him make a great ton at Trent Bridge early 00s. RIP.

One of our best ever batsmen.
He stood out in what was pretty ordinary England team.
I seem to remember the Ozzies saying he was the only english player who would have made their team at the time.
RIP.

Shocked and saddened by this.

I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong, but was he not the batsman who saw us to victory in the dark in Pakistan?

They were delaying, trying to claim a draw, but England refused to take the bad light and won in the end

A great cricketer, I particularly remember his match winning innings in Pakistan, playing in almost darkness, As a fellow left hander I loved watching how elegant and easy he made batting appear. Not that I ever did either of those things. RIP.
