Good to hear some honesty from Gibbo

Gibson is way too sentimental.
"Too sentimental"?

If only he was a hard nosed business man like the chunt who bought Wigan to make money on a bet, eh?

If Gibbo was less sentimental he'd have fooked off after some of the garbage that is spouted about him on here and elsewhere. The sense of entitlement from some fans is nauseating. (And then the same people will point at Newcastle, Liverpool, etc. fans for exactly the same thing)

Nothing wrong with a bit of sentimentality - we all have it.
In some respects, Muttley, his sentimentality has led to him keeping the club afloat.

Forget it’s Woidgate for a moment

A bloke was a professional footballer - a very good one.
He then failed as a No 2
He then failed as a No 1

But - he’s from Boro, so keep him on.
All a bit daft

I’d love to know if there is precedent in keeping a manager (sacked for being useless) on the books at any other club in any capacity
I'm sure Woodgate will end up as a youth coach with MFC
How anyone thinks this isn't a good thing has a screw loose...

People move away for lots of reasons, usually to provide more opportunity for their families and themselves.
Nobby seems to despise that and believe it forfeits their right to opinion on the Football Club that is every bit as much theirs as people who choose to stay, or move to the Middlesbrough area.
The Club is way bigger than the town of Middlesbrough; important to masses of people, many of who are huge fans.
I think Nobby is aiming a swipe at me which would be predictable.
I was born in Middlesbrough, brought up in various parts of Teesside, then went to Uni in Nottingham, lived up in Edinburgh, down in the south east and been back in Richmond for over 20 years - a whole 28 miles from the Riverside. I did much better through the experience.
I love nothing better than when a local lad does well. The team of 86 felt special because there were lots of local lads, but they cared and they were good and they did well. I loved Maddren, Proctor, Ripley, Mowbray etc.
I loved when Cattermole broke through and I absolutely loved Stewart Downing. I still get excited when a young local prospect starts to near the first team.
But I love my Club more than any of that local stuff.
I don't really care where the lads who pull our shirt on come from. I care what they feel and how they perform together; that's it.
The truth is that not everyone from Middlesbrough is good, not everyone cares and they don't always apply themselves. Being from Middlesbrough doesn't automatically make you better, or try harder.
There are great people from Middlesbrough and there are others too; just like anywhere else.

I still have loads of time for Stewart Downing - he would make my all time Boro team, just ahead of Spike.
I have respect for Woodgate because of his early days as a class centre half.
But I don't feel at all bad for not wanting either of them at the Club now.
Woodgate did not excel here as a player and failed badly as manager albeit with a tough gig.
Downing is done as a player and has no coaching experience, so I don't understand why he would be here either.

It always irritates me when certain posters group together all criticism and assume it all comes in full from the same group of people. It doesn't.
It is possible to admire and be grateful to Gibson for all he has done and yet still criticise the last 4 years.
It is possible to be as passionate a Boro fan in Hampshire as it is in Hemlington.
It is possible to love your memories of Downing and yet not want him to return.
It is possible to acknowledge Woodgate's class as a young centre back, yet think he is the worst manager the club has had and really want him to leave.

I've not heard the interview, but I really hope Gibson learns from all this. Apparently Pulis had recommended various then Gibson goes an appoints a complete disaster in Woodgater - we could all see how that would end up well before Gibson. There has to be a time when changes have to be permanent.

Fair enough Indeeido, I wasn't having a go at you..you make some good points
I just get sick of the doom and gloom merchants that want everyone OUT !
Even more so if you happen to have played for the club and come from the area.
Some are even calling for Bauser's head on another thread.
It's just pathetic.
I did find your claim that youngsters wouldn't look up to Woodgate as he is a 'failure' utterly ridiculous however !

Is he being kept on as a No.1?
Is he being kept on as a No. 2?
The chattering classes 😀

Plenty of clubs have ex players as ambassadors, no reason why Woodgate can't do that or maybe some scouting (he obviously has some contacts in football), but no reason why he should get a coaching role!

Ridiculous Woodgate staying on in any capacity. How can you command respect from any footballer around the place when you failed so miserably?

Never known such a sentimental club or group of fans in my life. If you're 'one of our own' you've got a job for life seemingly.

I don’t get the he is one of our own either tbh. Ok he was born in Nunthorpe, but he and his family chose to move to Leeds in 96. He was maybe Boro born, but he was made in Leeds. He played more for Leeds than Boro. Don’t get me wrong he did well and was a very good player in his prime etc and carved a great career, he maybe made the right personal decision, but he is just an ex player and ex head coach. He is no more one of our own than Jordan Hugill is for me.

You're on one today Muttley!👍
