Golf Hole in ones

Played a lovely course in Cardiff today, Whitchurch.
After playing for 40 years, never having had a hole in one, I walked onto the 14th (I think it was) tee. A short, downhill par 3, heavily protected by bunkers, and a strong breeze picking up from right to left.
My mate teed off first, putting a little draw spin on a ball already aimed too straight. He missed the green left, leaving a horrible chip over a bunker, but under overhanging branches. A messy 5.
Well informed by his error, I hit my wedge 15-20 yards right of the pin, and watched it pitch 8-10 right but sliding left toward the hole. We could see it had (just) enough legs left in it to reach, but would it sneak by in front or behind the hole. Could it…..possibly……drop? Hit the flag! Hit the flag.

Still waiting for my first ever hole in one 🙃

I've been playing 6 years and i've had 1 hole in one. It was at the 2nd on queens park down in Bournemouth. It was only after playing 1 year. Massive fluke.

I've been playing golf pretty much all of my life and only had one ace, on the last at Thirsk and Northallerton. I know lads who are into double figures.

Think it was yes.
Played Rockliffe today for the first time. Didn't even get a hole in 3.
Currently laid on the settee absolutely knackered. What a monster of a course off the white tees.

It is an absolute beauty isn't it. Especially going into those last 5/6 holes which always seem to play into the wind.

I've hit the flag a couple of times, but not lucky enough to have had a hole in 1 yet. The day I do, I'll probably just give up golf. :D

Only had one - been close dozens of times however including a questionable flag that was leaning to one side restricting the ball.

Mine happened at the 3rd at Cleethorpes Golf Club. On a weeks holiday there the year before, I noticed the local course offered a £10 a round deal during certain hours so the next year I took my clubs and had a wander around by myself. 151 yards, wind off the right helping my natural high draw. Perfect 9 iron. Great strike with it turning over towards the flag and then nothing. Didn't see it land, didn't see it roll anywhere, it couldn't have gone long!! I tried to ring my friend on the walk to the green in anticipation that nobody would believe me. No answer!!

Walked up to the hole and found my ball in the cup. Majority of people would never believe you but I take great pride in saying that as someone who loves golf and stands for every bit of etiquette within the game the ball had gone straight into the cup - taking a good chunk of the edge with it - see picture below. I'd never take a chunk of a hole for the sake of a HIO when I have been playing for 30 years. Shame really, it would have been nice to be playing with a group rather than just being stood on the next tee in complete misbelief by myself. :)
