Glastonbury 2024

Jesus this is diabolical... I love Coldplay, but again...really?

Strikes me as a plan C or even D after the plan A and plan B said no
They were always penned in I understand. Coldplay perform there for peanuts comparatively as they regard Glastonbury as their "spiritual home" and love Eavis. Us regular goers do roll our eyes at them being on yet again but not nearly as much as a Kanye or a Guns n Roses.

If ever a line summed-up a) the fact I'm getting older and b) how the "mainstream" has shifted it's this one!

Only The National, LCD and PJ I'd be keen on from that list and I'm seeing 2/3 this year anyway.

Seems to lack the "wow factor" compared to previous years with no real surprises. That said, even Primavera is pretty run of the mill this year.

That said, I'm sure it will be a good weekend camped out in front of iplayer (y)

***** me right off when people say “it’s not about the music, it’s the experience”. Jesus H. I’m sure that’s Glasto code for; ok it’s **** but I’m going to pretend I’m enjoying it anyway.

Coldplay are the worst band in the entire history of music. I actually hate them.

I'm guessing you've never been?

That's ok best just stay away you would hate it. ;)

Seriously it is "Glasto code" for there are over 100 stages at Glastonbury, there is a Circus tent, a comedy tent, cinema, bars, wonderful food of just about every sort you could imagine, entertainers strolling around the site, etc. etc., you could easily have the time of your life and never go near one of the stages listed on the poster.

I've been there in the mud, the pouring rain and in the sun and still would love to be going this summer even though the headliners are a bit "meh".

Never felt the need to go to a music festival where the music is ****.

What you describe is present at Download, Sonisphere and Bloodstock festivals too. Oh, and good music too 😉

Ah I see 🤘

Sonisphere no longer exists, Bloodstock has about half a dozen stages and Download about ten? And they play one sort of music.

Funny that. It being a music festival.

If people enjoy the “experience” of Glasto, crack on. But just don’t go giving it all the rubbish about the best festival everrrrrrrr maaaannn when most people know 5? acts in the entire line up.

That having been said Downloads lineup is awful this year as well.

I can only imagine you've never been 😔

It's not a music festival by the way, it's a festival of contemporary performing arts.

I have lied slightly as I did pay to watch Fontaines DC last year and I really didn’t enjoy it to be honest. Horses for courses.

I’d have possibly paid to see Maxi Jazz with Faithless if he wasn’t dead.

Feels a significantly weaker lineup than last year to me. To my taste, obviously.
Jesus that was as abrupt as most things I post, 'if he wasn't dead'. I know what you mean though. We come one is one of the best festival songs/experiences you can get.

Although I'm sure I could find enough bands i like to have a good weekend I wasn't particularly impressed. I put it down to me being old (48) but my daughter (19 and also a big music fan) described it as the worst line up she'd ever seen so it did make me wonder who their target audience is.

Ha sorry, yes. I did see Faithless live in the late 90s and it was awesome. But it feels like it wouldn't be as good without him. Though I'd give it a chance. I wouldn't be rushing off to see Coldplay anyway.

I actually don't want a festival to be back to back music and bands and rushing around to the next stage if I'm there for 4 or 5 days, you need time to eat, relax, take a dump, enjoy the atmosphere, explore. Glastonbury is the one and only festival where you get that in my opinion. Yes, it should be about the music first and foremost, but Glasto is like a holiday too, always something to do and see, if you want to.

I like nothing more than sitting up on the Glastonbury Hill when there's a bit of 'downtime', buying a beer from the wooden lodge and just laying back for an hour in the sun and looking at the sheer size of the place. Can't beat it!
