Gig ticket prices

I haven't any evidence, but I have a gut feeling because cheap/free music is now readily available people are listening more and this leads to increase demand for concerts.

It also interests how we are living in a cost of living crisis, but people are forking out £180 plus for a music concert ticket plus travel and accommodation etc - it seems the crisis is selective.

Gig prices have soared loads since post Covid.

I bought 2 x Gaslight Anthem tickets for £100 last year. More than double vs. when I first started seeing them but still reasonable compared to modern prices.

I was going to buy Slipknot tickets at the end of last year but they were the best part of £200 for 2 after fees. For a band I’ve liked and been to see since I was a teenager, it just felt a little steep. By the time I added in accommodation and travel I would have been looking at the thick end of £700 + spends.

Some of the big main stream artists prices are eye watering. I’d rather spend the money on.a festival.

Interesting article on the BBC about people saving money for big events rather than going out regular. That probably plays a part too.

I think the whole industry has fans over a barrel. Whilst there’s still enough people to snap up tickets and sell gigs out, they’ll keep inflating prices.

I bought my daughter 2 Sleep Token tickets for 114 in total on presale this week. She has told me that they were increased to 120 each on general sale and their added dates.

Download feels better and better value every year. Even if that has doubled in the last 15 years I have been going.

It’s where the money is for bands now - most don't sell millions of albums and singles anymore so the live circuit is where the money is

I paid £15 for Queen at Knebworth in 86 - I’m not sure what the equivalent would be allowing for inflation. I’m guessing it would still be less than what you would expect to pay for a similar level act so yes they have hiked the prices but that is because they don’t make the same level of record sales now

Smaller bands make their money on Merch, But the B word has made that more difficult. Bigger arenas take a bigger cut on it to that is why some of the T Shirts can be quite expensive.

Yes merch is a big part of things now too

You can buy a season ticket for our 16 main shows this year for £65. 4 pound & 7 pence a show. You get 10 free downloads for bandcamp use too.

Artists from the US, Sweden, Germany, Denmark are heading to Boro this year.

Saw a photo on Facebook recently of an Arctic monkeys ticket I bought in 2013, and it was £35. And they were just as big back then as they are today.
Same here. Saw them in Manchester in 2007 with the coral, supergrass and Amy winehouse all on support for £28!! All at their peak and it was £70 just for them alone last year. Crazy

SawA rctic Monkeys + Maxïmo Park + We Are Scientists + Mystery Jets @ Leeds on NME Shockwave Tour in 2006. Tickets were cheap but can't remember what they were. What I do remember though was touts selling tickets for £1. Phoned my mate and to him to come down but he didnt bother.

Gigs increased exponentially a good few years ago. The real worry is food and housing. I can't go out for a fry up now as they're a tenner and I just can't justify the expense. Football matches increased in price massively and hasn't risen that much since. The rest of life caught and surpassed.

£90 to go and see Liam Gallagher in June. I blame the tories ticket prices where ok last time Labour where in.

The bands being mentioned here will be selling plenty of physical and digital downloads and merch sales, it's purely cashing in on the industry price rises because they know the market will bear those prices, 20 years ago it probably wouldn't.

Plus actual costs will have gone up and getting American bands here is more expensive and less attractive for them as less venues here do demand based pricing although it is starting to pick up.

Do you really think Adele is hurting from physical sales? 120 million sales. Arctic monkeys sold over 12 million albums. The corrs have sold 40 million.

They're also the bands that will be making the most on streaming - and reaching people that otherwise wouldn't have heard of them.

The ‘B word’?
Presume brexit, importing them in ready printed or importing the T-shirts in to get them printed plus all the other merchandise like keyrings, stickers etc
