Gibson on “The Big Picture”

It would be not a matter of if, but when. Once the current TV deal ends, the big 6 move the goal posts, ensure agreements are in their favour and less cash cascades down the leagues. This proposal is nothing more than kicking the can down the road imho.

Personally, I feel we need Government intervention and regulation. Clubs are not just businesses, they are community assets too. Salary caps, transfer caps, level playing fields are needed at all levels. Yes I am sure in the short term other leagues abroad may benefit as players and agents follow the money. If that means teams like Liverpool and their like feck off to play abroad and give up on domestic football, let them go, their City’s fans will suffer in the long term and grow to hate it as they can’t afford to follow them home and away.

No way should football get government support, it has billions flowing in and out with rudiculous wages, agent fee's and transfer fee's and some owners taking out millions and asset stripping.

As we saw earlier we can't even feed our children properly and have many other social issues much more worthy or in need of financial support.

Perhaps the whole thing needs to collapse to be able start again within a realistic financial model. That might mean part time clubs, wage caps, local talent, set agent fee's etc. There are enough big clubs out side the premier league and the big 6 to set something up really good and attractive in cooperation with the FA, you have to get the marketing right it could just be as appealing as the premiership is now and a mix of fans attending (when they can) live streams for others when they can't and a global deal for the cups and club TV's or whatever combination of these things.

If the big six go, we then domestically get the new big six, there will undoubtedly be some pain but perhaps it's the long way out to a more stable future and a retention of future integrity for the game.

However that might well have passed, when you think about the curuption at the very top in FIFA and UFEA and no doubt the other world association's , what do expect further down the chain, it's all ready sad really.

Intervention does not mean financial support, I can see why you maybe thought that, but that is not what I am saying. I agree our taxes should not be used in that way. I am talking about imposing structure to ensure that clubs are run fairly, within their means and upholding equity and sporting integrity football is struggling to regulate itself and this power grab in a pandemic will hurt fans down the line never mind clubs.

Maybe now people might accept that football is about MONEY, not sport, and has been for years. Owners do not care about the fans.

Vote with your feet instead of going along with this disgraceful plan.

The sad truth is, you could double revenue for both the premier league and the EFL every 6 months and that money would get ploughed into players wages. There is easily enough money in football, billions in fact. Why do clubs struggle? Because they cannot or will not manage their finances. Players are greedy fans don't want to be patient and build something over time this means that wages inflate quicker than clubs incomes.

Football does not need more money, nurses on the other hand!
