Gibson on “The Big Picture”

Exactly what I expected.

He wants the money, he doesn't like the actual issues with the proposal.
Which seems to be case for so many owners in the EFL.

It's disgusting that the American ***** at Liverpool and Manchester United are taking advantage of a global pandemic and financial meltdown to try and push this through.

It's how the right wing works right across society. Not just football

“The wage cap is also absolutely necessary to assist these proposals. You only need one rogue owner to come in and start throwing money around and it distorts the market. We do not want the redistributed revenue simply disappearing, Alan Sugar's old prune juice analogy - in one end and out the other.”

He is bang on there

Why the surprise? We knew yesterday he was supporting Parry on this. Now we know what his thinking is and it’s no surprise at all. As anticipated he’s protecting the income stream for the Club. As EFL club owners we can see why they are. As football supporters naturally we are disappointed.

Isn’t that what we did mid/late 90s

Clubs are going to go the the wall in the next 4-8 weeks. The Premier league is offering very little money up front and a loan based scheme with loads of stipulations and controls. Sadly project big picture seems the only way forward.

He states he is uncomfortable with the power shift to the so called ‘big 6’ and says that football should ‘embrace the majority of it’. Nowhere does he say he supports it 100%. He states sometimes you have to give something up in order to get something but he doesn’t say explicitly what. He hasn’t nailed his colours 100% to the mast and perhaps he is subtlety manoeuvring to corral other owners into broadly supporting but pushing negotiations on the issue of the ‘power to big 6’ towards achieving movement away from this back towards one club one vote...? Perhaps achieving the redistribution of a proportion of the wealth offered (say 17-20% of future tv money’s rather than 25%) without handing over too much of the collective Power to the 6. A stroking of egos if you will.

There’s a touch of the ‘we are going to smash the league’ mis-quoting going on here rather than reading what he has actually said.

The first offer was a £40m grant with a £110m loan contingent together with the of conditions.. sounds like it's do or die. Take the deal and hand over power or reject the deal wait for clubs to fold and have to hand over power anyway.

Take the deal and push for then next government to implement the German 50+1 model.
