I don't think that is true or aligned only to the BBC. Work for any medium to large organisation and you could loose your job if you spout racism in a public forum. At the same time you are free to express any opinion you like, but if it's one that will embarrass your employer such as racism or extremism then you can be summarily sacked. But you lose the right to personal opinions that influence when you work for the BBC - thats how it works.
Gary Lineker would argue (and is arguing in court vs HRMC) that he is not a BBC employee and therefore not subject to the same contractual restrictions as a regular BBC employee.I don't think that is true or aligned only to the BBC. What has Lineker ever said that he deserves sacking for? He is left leaning but not an extremist. At the same time Andrew Neil was employed by the Beeb for decades and is far more extremist then Lineker but to the right. You could also ask why they would employ a right wing, racist extremist like Johnson to host HIGNFY.
It's clearly an absolute fallacy that people can't have personal opinions or they will get sacked, or that the beeb is left wing agenda driven.
That's a fair point, although as a contractor providing services to a client you have to be careful you don't bring them into disrepute too. They can't technically 'sack you'. But they can claim you have broken contract and refuse to give you further business, depending on the contract terms of course.Gary Lineker would argue (and is arguing in court vs HRMC) that he is not a BBC employee and therefore not subject to the same contractual restrictions as a regular BBC employee.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. In some previous cases BBC 'talent' have argued that they were, in effect, employees who had been pressured by the BBC to adopt corporate structures. The BBC will have to be very careful in the way it issues social media 'guidance' to people whose employment status is disputable. That's a fair point, although as a contractor providing services to a client you have to be careful you don't bring them into disrepute too. Yeah Octopus energy are getting a kicking on Twitter too. I imagine it won’t affect people like Vodafone too much but good work on the two beverage companiesKopparberg and Grolsh have just pulled their advertising from GB News.
More to follow I suspect.
They're populist libertarians, closer to the government than labour, but they want to go even further right. I would expect if they gain any sort of traction it'll launch a party at the next election or the one after. An extreme right wing one, akin to UKIPGB News certainly isn't a cheer leader for the Government - I've listened to it for a while now and all they do is blame the Government for stuff
Yes. They want to drag the government in a certain direction, not oppose themThey're populist libertarians, closer to the government than labour, but they want to go even further right. It's why Fox News pulled out of the UK isn't it? They were losing too much money.Kopparberg and Grolsh have just pulled their advertising from GB News.

This is heartening. Hopefully the advertising backlash will be the first indication that after the brexits and the borises some people in this country won’t stand for hard right propaganda and hate mongeringIkea and Nivea are out
Hope so, but get ready for a wave of people screaming "cancel culture". Label it how you want, as a consumer in a capitalist society I have the right to decide who to give my money to and corporate ethics is important. To RWNJs, don't cry at me that I have to do this for every business that hurts anything at all, as a consumer I get to decide what breaks my ethics not you, so don't bother engaging with that come back. ALL businesses understand what the triple bottom line is, they understand the consequences of politicising their brand and financing hate. This is heartening. Hopefully the advertising backlash will be the first indication that after the brexits and the borises some people in this country won’t stand for hard right propaganda and hate mongering
