Gary Lineker being reined in

People tune in to watch football. The BBC does have a celebrity/personality obsession

Realistically the BBC is not even in the football game. Sky and BT sports are miles ahead

Watching Sky football now
I haven’t checked the viewing figures, but I’d be fairly confident that match of the day is the most popular football TV show in Britain, hence why this is a story.

Of course all the spotlight being turned on Lineker is diverting it from the fact that the BBC has done exactly the same to the national treasure Sir David Attenborough!!🤬
By making and funding a programme voluntarily and putting it on iplayer for anyone at all to watch whenever they want?

It is not the same at all and I can’t believe people are trying to claim that it is.

I believe he is a freelancer who is used by the bbc, so highly unlikely to cost them
Of course it will cost them, they have a long contract with him and will have to pay him. If he chooses to claim that the Beeb have breached the contract then he will sue them for compensation and damages to his reputation

The current “chaos” will simply be a case of both parties taking legal advice. If his last contract had something in it about tweeting (and I suspect it did) they will now just be arguing about whether he’s breached it.

Or the other way round

BBC confirm no host or pundits tomorrow.

What an absolute mess they’ve made of this
I thought they were only allowed to show limited minutes of football highlights from SKY? Looks like MOTD will be on for about 30 minutes tomorrow. Probably followed by the film “All the President’s Men”.

It’s been stated that it had guidelines. Guidelines are not enforceable. Andrew a Neil has rules which are enforceable and they chose not to enforce it. Thus this is a politically kotivated stance by the bbc execs. They’ll get rinsed in court if Lineker chooses to go that far. His position is effectively untenable as we speak
