Full backs are the problem

Liverpool always have Fabinho sat deep as well almost like a sweeper of midfield other 4 when attacking,
i.e. Trent, Henderson, Keira, and Robertson
Think Howson goes a lot further forward than the role Fabinho plays for Liverpool, maybe that is our problem .
i would prefer howson further foward with a fabinho type defensive mid as well

I remember Monk having a similar problem when he had Christie bombing forward. His solution was Clayton basically playing as a centre back whenever we had the ball and I guess Wilder is trying something similar but using 3 centre backs.

It works well when we have the ball and creating overloads down the wings. However for this tactic to work you need clinical finishing as when we lose the ball we end up being overloaded especially as our centre backs get forward a lot as well.

One things for sure it is sxciting but if you keep getting points knicked off you can be demoralising.

Footballers are conditioned to believe that the safe ball is backwards or sideways not forwards. In a wilder team the safe ball is sometimes forwards and the unsafe ball is backwards. If you pass backwards when we've committed players forward that's a dangerous ball as the receiving player will not have as many options to pass too.

One thing I think we do need to do is not be dogmatic though. If a team is playing a high pressing game against us go long from the keeper. We do not have the quality of player to be bringing the ball out from the back when under pressure. At present we don't have the movement.

Against QPR in particular you could see their goals coming. You can see that all of our players are marked. That if we play it out from the back we will need to play a lot of dangerous balls. You can see it two or three passes before we lose the ball. Howson and Jones in get picked on as players vulnerable to a press and can get monstered when receiving the ball facing their own goal.

Watching the first goal back, and setting aside it was a clear foul, when Jones receives the ball he is under pressure straight away. Notwithstanding this BOTH McNair and Dijksteel run beyond him as he tracks back towards our own half. This means if he loses out we are totally exposed down our right. We have to be smarter than that defensively. If either McNair or Dijksteel had hung back until the situation became clear there would have been no danger of a break away.
