Is he better and more committed than some of those who played yesterday. Could he do some sort of job for us next year?

I would like to see Lewis Wing back into the fold next season. Scored 7 goals last season which is decent for a midfielder and those goals helped keep us up. We have no other midfielder who can score/shoot - I doubt our midfield has scored 7 goals between them this season. We have barely had a shot in the last few games. People go on about his defensive duties but you have Howson and Morsy to do that dirty job. He is cheap and local and is a decent squad player at least

Probably our lowest paid player. I think another championship side will give him a better offer if we decide to let him go.

He's one of those players who other teams will value a lot more than us because they just see the world class long range screamers.

In reality I don't think Wing is good enough for a place in a play off chasing midfield.

I don't think he tracks runners properly and he switches off, he's not good enough going forward to compensate for his defensive frailties.

I would definitely keep him in the squad as he can certainly change a game but if he wants starts I think he'll have to leave.

I really like his commitment and effort, definitely nothing lacking there.

When he broke into the first team, he was playing without fear, scoring great goals and palying people in with incisive passes. Warnock is trying Coulson out in different positions including behind the striker - perhaps he should do the same with Wing?

It amazes me that people value 'tracking back' above the ability to score from long range and pose a real threat that the opposition have to counter.
Just showing my age I guess.
My personal preference would be to have some mavericks in the team rather than a load of identikit crabs midfielders. The problem comes when the mavericks meet a very well drilled team they struggle to break it down and get picked off on the break as they are not themselves in a great defensive shape.

I think football has become over coached if I'm honest, too many low blocks and negative safety first play.

The opposite side to that argument is that if boro are regularly coming out on top in a turgid arm wrestle of a game then I will happily live with it.

I like the lad and hes a decent player. However if we want to go up we need better than decent players.

I agree as The hardest thing you can do on any football pitch anywhere in the world is score a goal. That’s why strikers are so expensive and paid so much.

so finishing is the one ability I rate above all others.

The two goals he scored for Rotherham won't be scored by anyone else we have. Yes he looks 'laboured' and apparently he doesn't track back.

What he does bring is goals and a decent passing range. I would definitely get him back and give a pre season.

I imagine Warnock has probably already made his mind up. He's only one year left and on low wages.

I would expect his good reviews at Rotherham and 2 worldies would mean 5-6 champo clubs will want him (the likes of millwall / PNE etc).

We should be in for Matt Crooks. He has looked class in the last couple of months for them (apart from missing chances😂)

I value scoring a goal very highly but, when we are not in possession, his lack of defensive abilities are there to be seen, he lets opposition midfielders either run off him or run past him far too easily.
