Football Manager 20/21

Had a $10 voucher for Epic so just put it towards this game. The last time I bought one of these was probably the classic Champo Manager for the Amiga (I'm watching the Newport playoff game and Michael Flynn, their manager, was always a "must buy" on the game and it prompted me to take the plunge).

Hope it’s not too overwhelming for you after so long without playing a version!

I get it every year when it comes out but the bug dies down towards the end of the season, will probably find myself back on it once the Euros start. If you do one with Boro make sure you keep and play Calum Kavanagh, he’s won a couple world player of the year awards in my save 😍

Yeh I reckon it's a bit too in depth too. There are ebooks on training and tactics for it! I guess if you're really into it then great but when you just want a bit a fun and a time killer, hiring all sorts of staff and setting up multiple tactics and different training sessions is a bit much. It's still fun though just takes a while to get set up. Britts in my u/18s and isn't too happy about it.

Football Manager has went too far now I think. I loved the game between 2005 - 2010 and could lose whole days playing it. The detail is a bit too much now for my liking.
If you buy it on PC / Mac you get a diluted version of the same game without a lot of the stuff that tends to bog you down i.e. training, media etc. that helps you get through the season a lot quicker.

I used to love FM and Champ Man before it, but as has been said it became really in depth and I didn’t have the time or patience to invest in all the minutiae. There was a free download of the latest FM a few months ago for lockdown I think, I got it but never took the plunge.

I did recently play a version of the classic CM01/02 with updated players that was a free download, brought back memories! I think one of the versions not long after 01/02 was the greatest, had the perfect balance of details and playability.

I would recommend downloading some tactics, As it will be a struggle without them until you get used to the dynamics. I think Knap tactics are probably the best(Google knap tactics, you will find him on FMscout).

Funnily enough I'm sure I remember people saying the exact same thing about there being too much detail around 2005-2010.

I got 21 after not playing since FM12. Got Sutton Utd up to the championship so far.

I loved Championship Manager in the 90s, played it for hours on end. Nowadays its far too detailed for me, could be because I'm 40 next year or it could be because games are better when they're simpler, but whenever I play it now I get bored after just a few goes.

Echoing what's been said on here, CM 00/01 and 01/02 were my life as a teenager. I'm sure I could get lost in it and get up to speed with where it's at now, but I'd probably feel pretty guilty for neglecting the rest of my life when my missus and kid have left and I've been sat on the same spot on the sofa for 4 weeks as the bailiffs come and take everything else around me.

CM01/02 is still the best by a country mile IMHO and is one of only a couple of games I ever still play (occassionally) along with Sid Meier's Pirates!

Another shout for SM Pirates! Loved that game, they even did an iPhone version but stopped supporting it so it no longer worked.

Although I love the newer FMs the one thing they've never been able to replicate for me from CM01/02 was the online mode. Can't beat doing a save with your mate in Division 3 and seeing who can get to/win the Premier League first.

I liked the early versions, I haven’t got the attention span for them now. Can’t justify sitting that long when things need doing. Each to their own I suppose

I still play Football Manager, using last years version at the moment, same game since Covid started. I just delegate most of the detailed stuff to my staff and concentrate on transfers and tactics. I definitely preferred it when it simpler, I reckon I found it more absorbing even before the match engine got introduced.

Think I am going to have to do this before I get sacked!!
