Folarin Balogun

I'm not over blown away with excitement. The point being anyone who raves or rates him is based on a twitter U23 match where he nutmegs someone or one goal that keeps circulating.

Career wise he's not done much. I get he's young but very few young forwards do well in the champo (Bamford was decent).

A great player in a prem U23 side is far from being a decent champo player. We've had some many 'next big young things' on loan and half of them hardly get a kick. It's a massive step up.

I'm not writing him off. Just saying you can't rate his 'ability' on random YouTube clips. Just watch Britts highlights. You'd think he's Fowler😂

" Career wise he's not done much."

Whatever that means is not clear, but which of our players [below] have consistently played in the top flight or consistently at International level? Paddy Mcnair?

We have to be realistic in what we expect.

We are not in the position to buy a "finished" player of the caliber of Maddison / Toni / Mitrovic / Pickford / Gibson / Mings / Barnes / Hughes / Lawrence. [etc].

We have to use players:

(1) Proven pedigree towards the end of their careers [Bamba / Peltier / Taylor / Hall / Howson]
(2) EFL players. [Watmore / Lumley / Mcnair / Crooks]
(3) Players unproven in the Championship from abroad [Sporar / Siliki / Payero]
(4) Various Academy players [Including those from other clubs]
(5) Loanees.

The key to making that mixture work is a Proven Management Team [Wilder], the Recruitment Team and an effective Player Development and Coaching Structure.

Is Balogun worth bringing to the Riverside?
I suggest Chris Wilder and the Management Team are in a more informed position to make that judgement.

Of our current players, how many have "done much"(?)
Its not what we think they are worth or how reliable they have been for the Boro.

Anfernee Dijksteel - [Charlton]

Dael Fry - [Boro Academy]

Djed Spence - [Fulham Academy]

Marc Bola - [Notts County / Bristol Rovers / Blackpool]

Marcus Brown - [Wigan / Oxford / West Ham]

Marcus Tavernier - [Boro Academy]

Isaiha Jones - [Tooting and Mitcham]

Josh Coburn - [Boro Academy]

'career wise not done much'.... Maybe I was harsh as clearly you've got something player for Arsenal U23s.

I guess my point was we've signed so many youngsters from these 'amazing clubs' that hardly get a kick.

You do get odd ones who light up the champo....Mason mount and Wilson at Derby or Tammy Abraham at Villa / Bristol City. Also a few more. I guess Bamford was the only real forward who done it for us.

Yet the majority don't hit the ground running (they have 5 months with us). It's a massive leap from playing in the U23s to getting smashed by Richard Keogh or Sean Morrison in the champo 😂

I understand your point Disco (y)
Out of all those players - its a testament to our Management and Coaches that all of them have proven their worth.
Who would have thought we could build a Championship side including players from: Tooting and Mitcham, Charlton Athletic, Berwick Hills, Blackpool, Leeds, Richmond and Pascanas? Its amazing really.

Its hard to make any assessment on a game like last night. Trust the lad has been looked at extensively and he fits into Wilders philosophy and style. We have to trust that players with little first team experience could be the stars of the future and therefore worth the risk. He was getting rave reviews from those in the know so the talent has to be there.

That said he will now sign for Forest who come to the Riverside on form.
