First Test - India v England

Yes as Root said, he had played on that particular wicket longer than anyone this test and knew how it would react. Mr cool !

One of the most perfect performances you will see by any cricket team away from home.

That's what is so great about cricket, it's not till after the match is complete that you can actually analyze it.

As for Jimmy... Sports personality of the year for that over alone. Quite possibly the greatest English cricketer of all time.

Wouldn’t 2-0 be enough?
No. Infact rained off wouldn’t be any good either as the test will be down as a draw. It would need to be abandoned.

NZ have made the World Test Championship Final (as SA v Australia has been cancelled). :

India qualify if...
🇮🇳 2-0
🇮🇳 2-1
🇮🇳 3-0
🇮🇳 3-1
🇮🇳 4-0

England qualify if...
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 3-0
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 3-1
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 4-0

Australia qualify if...
🇮🇳 1-0
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 1-0
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 2-0
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 2-1
🤝 0-0
🤝 1-1

Excellent! Just need the remainder of the series to be rained off now (otherwise we need to win 3-0 or 3-1 to make the final).
I think the original plan had been to have a top four play off....with that line up I think that might have worked....never mind. Looks like New Zealand v Australia next summer.

I think the remainder of the series is going to be fantastic if this test is anything to go by. It will be interesting to see whether having 25,000 spectators in the second test will have any bearing on how England play.

I fear it may sway some of the umpire calls on DRS?!

I hope Bess can continue to be lucky. He couldn't even hit the pitch a lot of the time, then he nearly picks up a wicket with a catch in the deep and then he bowls a jaffa to remove the impressive Washington Sundar.
