First goal yesterday - playing out from the back / Greenwood

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, but having watched the highlights of yesterday's match I wondered why Greenwood's reaction was so muted after the first goal? Engel came straight over to him but he didn't look at all happy. Having said that the team's reaction to taking the lead looked fairly low key as well?
I can’t speak for Greenwood but I would guess it was a frustrated / relief type of reaction. Somewhere in the region of scoring and saying ‘f*** off’ instead of ‘get in’. Millwall dominated the game up until then tactically and he hardly touched the ball so was probably frustrated.
See our third celebration and look at the lads then - Roger’s for example.
Probably a reflection on Millwall’s performance too as they made it tough yesterday

The ball by Glover was fantastic, if that is a pass by a midfielder putting a forward player through, people would be drooling over it.

Beats the press in one action. Risk v reward demonstrated in that passage of play perfectly. It might not come off every time, there will be occasions where it goes wrong, but fans need to not get their knickers in a twist when it does.

Yes, I noticed this too. Engle seemed to be like "bro, wtf - I've just scored my first goal!"

For me the jury is still out on Greenwood. I like what he does for the team but I think he's yet to show us a dominating performance. Like others have said though, he's not had a lot of professional minutes in his legs.

Plus, I haver seen him smile. Cheer up boy.

Ah cheers, that makes sense. It shows that you can't read too much into a brief highlights package.

The impression I get with him is that he feels hard done by and is in a permanent sulk. He has a high opinion of himself and thinks that he doesn't get enough recognition. Getting sent out on loan to him feels humiliating. He is not being played in his favourite position. He thinks he is better than some of his teammates. He doesn't like being substituted....etc

Do you think Carrick would tolerate any of that?

Thats a bit vague, can you narrow it down a bit further please.

Actually, I see a bit of that too to be honest. I can be like that on a pitch myself, but not in life. But perhaps not as pointed at the edges as iamborome said. He has a bit of a chip on his shoulder but I don’t think it’s that bad. He often sprints to close down players which I really like

All starts with a pretty risky ball out from Glover after Greenwood cleverly drops deep to receive (he does this quite often) - he then makes a great run off Jones to receive the ball and set up the goal.

Firstly, it's a great example of why we play out from the back and a direct example of a goal resulting from it.

Secondly, it's a great example of the work Greenwood puts in. Plenty of threads about him when he missed chances but not a single thread about him today.
I've just watched the goals on the 'Inside Matchday' video and didn't realise how deep he drops to receive the ball to start the move and then busts a gut to receive it back and lay it off for Engel.

What I like about all our forward players and this is no doubt in large part down to Carrick, is even when it's not going well, they keep trying stuff, keep attempting the dribbles and the forward passes.

Very easy to say, it's not coming off for us today, let's play it a bit safer.

Think we've scored a few goals where we've not been at it and then suddenly we string together a slick move and score a really good goal. It only needs to come off once and you're in, no matter how badly you're playing.
