First Crimea, next Ukraine?

Reading up on some more today, Russia have apparently got 85,000 troops stationed on the border and the Russians have also moved one of the missile groups which are now in range to hit targets in Ukraine.

The yanks have also sent two battleships into the black sea.
Nothing confirmed from the US but the area is too small for a Carrier Group (plus they can operate from the Med anyway) more than likely will be a couple of Arleigh Burke Class destroyers... they can look after themselves Air defence wise and can make a mess with tomahawks if they need to.

it’s a tough job sailing the Black Sea... they will be monitored by the Russians as soon as they enter from the straits

This could be the first 'water war', if anything happens I imagine it will be blowing up some dams and or taking the infrastructure to control the water flow.

There has been speculation about Russia pushing out of Crimea and taking rivers to have control of the water situation there.

I still think this is all posturing by the Kremlin mostly to keep the pressure on Ukraine but also to test Biden, however if things heat up and someone pushes too hard this could really flare up.

Ukraine are a sitting duck to be fair. Putin could take it if he wanted to and nobody would life a solid finger to stop him.

To be fair to them they have repeatedly asked Ukraine to open the water supply. Crimea is desperate for water, they're building desalination plants but can't employ many international corporations to do it because Crimea is not recognised as part of Russia by the western world. Russia doesn't have alot of expertise in that area cos well they have never worried about water.

Biden is a real danger here or his advisors are far more... They can't be seen to de escalate because orange man.

Putin doesn’t want Ukraine, he doesn’t even want Eastern Ukraine. But he doesn’t want another NATO and EU member in his backyard and will keep up a civil war to maintain the status quo, this is obviously a dangerous tactic as the potential for escalation is there.

What better way to stop the yanks and the Germans putting an air base in your back yard then by putting a big old Russian bear in it?

You can get why Ukraine might not want to cooperate when they believe the Crimea was illegally taken from them - well it was an illegal annexation, even if I’m slightly sympathetic to the Russian historical view here, which I’m not with the Donbas.

Biden and many on his team are unsympathetic to Russia in a way we haven’t seen since the Cold War, but they’re more worried about China at the moment and this is where things could get complicated if anyone takes any liberties.

Whilst Putin doesn’t want to fight for all Ukraine, he certainly wanted it in his sphere of political influence, even if that bird has likely flown. He has imperialistic tendencies and is one of the many Russians angry at the territorial loss from the breakup of the USSR. Whilst militarily taking back all that land is unfeasible he can still try to use politics to control countries, hence the Eurasian Economic Union (which partly kicked off events in Ukraine). He will also destabilise countries by claiming to protect Russian minorities such as we can see in Transnistria, South Ossetia, Abkhazia and now the Donbas.

Britain and Boris need to keep well F***ing clear of this, it's not been that long since I watched threads.

There is no good guy here not Ukraine, not America, not Russia it's geopolitics on steroids.

It's all good we've got our aircraft carrier off the the South China sea to project a bit of our "global" power.
What could possibly go wrong ?

Johnson can't afford to get involved.
His backers will tear him to shreds for a start off.
