Finley Cartwright - Boro U18s & England

He does look a talent. Still an u16 but as it says he has already played a few times for our u18s. Played for England u16 recently as well.

Imagine this sort of sh*t is going on on a permanent basis.

Part of the big clubs business model. Nick/buy for next to nothing talented young player, if he's good enough MAY make the first team, if not loan him out for a few seasons then sell him for a few million.

So clubs like us get a few grand but the big boys get millions. Needs stopping, another way to skew the financial side of the game in the big boys favour.

Why would we let him go? It’s almost like they have some kind of right to take our player. Tell them to do one!
It’s not about letting him go, he is too young to be offered forms. When we make an offer he could reject it for another club.

There isn’t anything we could do to stop him under the current rules. But as a tier 1 academy we would be due compensation which could be in the millions, certainly if he went on to play for Chelsea’s first team or even England.

I hope he stays because we’ve all seen the lack of opportunities at Chelsea for talented youth players.

But getting your head turned for £20k week......bank balance good, career prospects not so good.

How's the next big thing Billy Gilmour getting on these days? 🙄

If he wants to go there's not a lot the club can do about it. He may not even be under contract.

Sat on the bench at Wembley, but he'll never need to work again.

It’s a gamble, but at 16, even big club youth players are not earning 20k. They get that when they sign their first pro contract. We’re probably talking about 2k a week here, instead of £500 with us.

Sorry was being a bit facetious, but my point is Chelsea will offer him more than we can, fill his head with sh*t and bung his mam and dad a few quid.
Fast forward 2 years he signs his big pro contract and begins the first of his 5 loan spells at 5 different clubs, before being quietly released and signing for MK Don's.

There is a vast amount of talent coming through the Boro Academy and local schools. Probably from the 16/17 year olds down, there is a real pipeline. A friend works in the coaching system at primary school level and apparently Middlesbrough schools have been regularly winning national events over the last 5 or 6 years. Often representing England overseas. Apparently, it's a real hotbed.
