Female Referee for us today

I thought Engel‘s yellow was harsh.

He wasn’t aware the player was there. But a bit like driving without due care and attention, he wasn‘t being aware and out of control I guess.

I remember Brighton's red when we got promoted. Their defence of him depended on believing that he didn't mean it AND was in complete control of his actions.

I accept LE didn't mean it, but he went charging in, couldn't stop himself, and he did get him

I think you’re right.

I thought she was poor to be honest as did many around me in the West.

Did nothing to stop their attempt at time wasting.

Was the Engel yellow deserved? Was the other end from me but it looked like an accidental clash.

Hackney booking wasn’t warranted either.

Poor when deciding when to give advantage or not.

Typical EFL referee.

Well looks like the

I‘m glad that the conversation around him has changed. He’s going to be okay after all, I think.
That was the thought of the Brum co commentator too, he thought it was a genuine challenge.

Easy from the stands though, especially on a replay.

She had a very good game today. It's not easy for a good female ref to be promoted and accepted, fans and league management would prefer a bloke of inferior quality.

One other point on her performance, 4 mins injury time first half - really, there was much more time lost n the first half than the second and that had 8 mins. Engel was probably down for those 4 mins alone while the ref waited with the yellow card in her hand, the board saying 10 mins would not have surprised me at all.

I thought she was decent, happy to have her back reffing our games in the future. Got the yellow cards spot on. Think most people on here are in general agreement about this. The advantage she didn't play was frustrating but oh well. We got the 3 points in the end so happy days

Good luck to her. It’s not an easy job being a football referee.

As for Washington. I have no issue with a North East woman doing well. She might not even be a Sunderland fan!
Definately a Sunderland fan but very professional, her nephew, my lad is Boro mad, her other nephew my other lad is a Newcastle fan.
We went to get signatures before the game and my son said to Carrick (he’s only 8)my Aunties the ref today he said maybe we’ll get a penalty then, I said I’m afraid that’s wishful thinking with her sister being the EX wife 😂.
My point is where do links end I’d imagine refs in London have family links / rivalry links all over the shop

Shouldn't be aloud to ref a rival team, she was poor in first half. Second half just got on with it, good win. Move on.
Ordinarily they are not

Michael Oliver the nations top ref is not allowed to ref sunlun games.

“Oliver confirmed that he is not allowed to officiate any Newcastle or Sunderland games for obvious reasons.

However, he also revealed that he can't officiate the games of any teams around Newcastle in the Premier League table during the final couple of months of the season.“

On Engels challenge .... it was dangerous.
That would have been at least a yellow and possibly a red on review and that's in Rugby.

He knew he was there otherwise why try win the ball? If he wasn’t there he’d have let it sail out of play.

The only debate around that challenge was whether it was a red for endangering an opponent and not being in control. It was reckless but not malicious. Still dangerous play, which doesn’t need to intentional.

But I’d say she was probably right with the yellow. If was the other way around I’d be asking for a red.

To be fair, Jeff Winter refereed Newcastle and Sunderland games.

It's probably just a case where we're not considered big enough rivals to need to be avoided.

That’s a great link you have!

She got a bit of stick first half, but I thought overall she did well. I’d love to see those who criticise refs actually have a go themselves. It’s bloody difficult and a lot harder than it looks.

But who considers that then

When we are their closest rival in this league

I think the Hackney booking was for dissent, not the challenge.

For any Mackems reading, yes it happens to all teams.
