Favourite Opening Lines to a song....

There was a bloke.
An underwhelming bloke with dodgy knees.
Got thrills from hanging around ponds and upsetting birdies.
That bloke just f*cked a heron
That bloke just f*cked a heron.

Song for Nobby by The Bum faced Band.

I may have stolen a bit of that from another song.
@bumface there was another song I heard on the radio (late night smooth), about Nobby's extracurricular activities. I can't remember all the words but it started....

He had joy, he had fun, f*cking herons in the sun,
But the fun wouldn't last, 'cause the b*stards moved too fast.

All men have secrets and here is mine
So let it be known
For we have been through hell and high tide
I think I can rely on you
And yet you start to recoil
Heavy words are so lightly thrown
But still I'd leap in front of a flying bullet for you

Well my daddy left home when I was three, didn’t leave very much for ma and me, except this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze

Well, you didn't wake up this morning cos you didn't go to bed
You were watching the whites of your eyes turn red

The calendar on the wall was ticking some days off
You've been reading some old letters
You smile think how much you've changed
All the money in the world couldn't buy back those days

A lot of my favourites have already appeared so...

"Grand canyons of space and time universal" from Judas Priest
or
"What horrors in her head that her tongue dare not name" from Nick Cave

Well, you didn't wake up this morning cos you didn't go to bed
You were watching the whites of your eyes turn red

The calendar on the wall was ticking some days off
You've been reading some old letters
You smile think how much you've changed
All the money in the world couldn't buy back those days
Cant beat a bit of T' T' this one definitely one of his best.

It's a first verse technically but I've always admired this one:

I get my whiskey from a well, except on holidays
Then it's the top shelf
But tonight I don't mind if I spend a little more
Cause you're a tolerant woman and the world is at war

Bright Eyes - Well Whiskey

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
