FAO Rob_FMTTM - Spurs & Chelsea Tickets

We are going to raise this with the football club at the first opportunity.
If you don't mind, could you ask about the feasibility for the reintroduction of the Boro Pride card, or similar? It was a good alternative to a season card for us who live many miles away from Teesside and it showed genuine fan interest and support. Obviously, the price would rise from the £10 I paid in mid-2010s, say £15-20?

Just because it was done for the Spurs game doesn't make it right, as Spurs was a Tuesday night so perhaps there was less demand.

How is a season ticket holder being allowed to purchase an additional ticket a fair way of distributing the tickets?

ST holders deserve all the benefits they get, but if they are allowed to buy an additional ticket are you not running the risk that existing ST holders could also potentially miss out on the opportunity to purchase a ticket (I'm not sure how may ST holders we have so not sure if this is a possibility).

As a comparison, Forest are allowing one ticket per ST for their tie against Liverpool, which just seems right to me.
We are definitely bringing up this issue - but lets face it we are saying all this in hindsight - none of us seem to have foreseen what happened. Now, I do know that the club should have the tools to allow them to have a clearer idea. But none of us seem to have predicted what was going to happen after the experience of the Spurs game. But we do have to make sure this does not happen again.

Yes we have had that on the agenda for over a year - waiting to speak to the commercial manager - it was popular and there is definitely plenty of need for bringing something like this back. I believe that the club has been working with a team on looking into loyalty and priority card schemes.

If you read on I did say I agreed with the OP.

Season ticket holders being able to bring a friend makes sense as an offer for matches where there is low demand such as an ordinary league match. It's a way for the club to try and get more people coming to the match and maybe joining a group of existing season ticket holders and becoming a regular. However, the club have a priority points scheme which is only needed when demand exceeds supply like in the case of an FA Cup Quarter Final. It is utterly bonkers that they haven't used the system that they have put in place, ******* off any fan that has done things the "correct" way by collecting points.

I'm not in favour of a priority points scheme at all. They are only suitable for rare occasions of moderate demand and are completely pointless when demand is low and unfair when demand is consistently high. A high demand home cup match is one of the rare occasions where it is wholly fair to have a priority scheme because anyone that has any points at all should be guaranteed a ticket before it hits general sale. Beggars belief that they've managed to screw it up so badly that the 1 time it is useful they get it so wrong.

If it was a low demand game why wouldn't the additional person just buy a ticket, unless I've missed your point? Also the additional person still needs to pay for a ticket for Chelsea, it's not free?

Do you mean a guarantee that such a person would be sat next to the ST holder in question?

Think they've done them in the past where season ticket holders could bring an extra person for a discounted price. A way to get around the club offering discounted tickets without the entitled season ticket holders crying about someone else saving some money for a change.

Yes that is right this offer has happened in the past - and it allows the season card holder to bring a mate/family and be able to sit with them at the match.

I think this is the problem.

I didn't know about the extra ticket per ST for Spurs so we ended up with a ticket a few rows away for a reasonably regular attendee when the tickets went on general sale. Being able to get tickets in the usually empty seats next to us is a definite bonus.

The priority points system was (as far as I recall) first introduced due to demand for away games. The club website says that priority points are also for BIG games, and they should honour that, but there doesn't seem to be any definition of BIG game (hardly surprising) and it only states that they'll use them for tiered pricing - it doesn't make it clear that there'll be any specific order of merit when tickets are put on sale - maybe this is what's needed so that it is clear and consistent.

However, I'd imagine the club don't care so much as to who turns up when it's a full house just that it isn't a full house regularly enough to worry about (without the fans giving them a nudge).

Not really hindsight though is it, perhaps a lack of foresight would be a better phrase

I mean who could have thought that a Saturday evening kick off against the current club champions of the world and Champions league holders, in a quarter final of the FA cup with Wembley only 90 minutes away would have a big demand???

Rob, let's be honest, the club have been talking a good game on a new Boro Pride for a VERY long time now, they're taking the absolute mick with it - either do it or shut up about it now - the club I mean not you!

Forest are doing their upmost to stop liverpool supporters gaining access to the home end £28/£33 their tickets for adults

I agree with most of the posters here. After this Chelsea game the 'bring a friend scheme' should be scrapped, and never re-introduced.

I am a perfect example of why this is wrong. I've been a ST holder for 8 years (I have 166 priority points), and I got my ticket for the Spurs game.
I bought another ticket for a family member who has only attended 2-3 games in the last few years.
Obviously this family member loved the Spurs game, and now wants me to get Chelsea tickets, which I failed to, but I will try again on Saturday (if I don't, someone else will anyway).

This is unfair on the supporters who have 40+ 50+ 60+ etc... points who are unable to get tickets, due to people like me who are buying tickets for part timers.

I am guessing that a discussion on the free-market merits of a StubHub type ticket reselling platform in the UK would not go well on here😉

It honestly isn’t hindsight.

As I said much earlier in this thread, I didn’t get agree with it but they got away with it vs Spurs as it was a midweek game and the majority of those fans who live a reasonable distance from the Riverside would have opted to watch the match on BBC, especially with the added prospect of extra time and pens.

Saturday evening vs the European and World champions when a win will take us to a Wembley semi-final? This is easily the biggest game in years at the Riverside, I’d say since the Villa play-off semi final.

Demand was always going to outstrip supply, it’s simple maths. I don’t know how many season card holders we have, maybe around 14,000?

They all get an extra ticket, away team get 4,000 tickets, then there’s segregation and there’s your stadium full.

Now I know not every SC holder is going to buy an extra ticket, but that’s not leaving much there for non-season card holders.

I just don’t understand why they thought it was ok to bring in a priority point system, then ignore it for their biggest home game in years.

This is the reason I was against the introduction of such a system, they’ve shown too many times when it comes to tickets they can’t be trusted to distribute them in a fair way.

It is absurd to go from season ticket to 11 points that is only 4 home games in 2 years. Should of defiently been a higher tier say 25-30 on the next batch

I've known the club make some right howlers over the years but I think this is up there with the best of them. Disgusting way to treat loyal fans.

The more I think about it the more I don’t understand how bringing someone else rewards my loyalty.

It’s anecdotal but pretty much every season card holder I know has got someone else a ticket, and they’ve gone to wives who don’t even like football, mates who apart from the odd Boxing Day game haven’t been since we were in the Prem or family members who watched the Spurs game and want to be part of the occasion.

I had 4-5 people message me earlier this week asking if I could get them one, all the kind of people who normally question why I bother going as “they’re s****”.

Getting them a ticket doesn’t benefit me at all.

If you want to reward the season card holders, give us a discounted ticket. I think the tickets are too cheap anyway for this fixture, so charge us £15 and charge the rest £30.

If you want to give us extra tickets, let us get our kids tickets for a quid or something for a league game that we know won’t sell out, rather than a huge cup game that would have sold out regardless.

I remember when I couldn't give my season ticket away for as game. 😁

I was surprised when I found I was able to get another ticket for Spurs and Chelsea.

Some Season card holders may think this is part of the benefits!
