Exercise. I'm heading towards my 60th birthday.....

Recently just finished a book called Everything Fat Loss by Ben Carpenter if anyone is interested in learning more, well worth the time it took.

For me walking and calorie counting.
2 stone off in a year through a deficit and now maintaining and still counting the calories. I eat somewhat healthy but I have snacks etc most days too.
Worked/works for me. I eat whatever I fancy but in moderation. I've not cut anything out I've just cut down on the things that can easily put the weight on. Each to their own but it really is In versus Out.

Heading to 60?

Just get out and about, meet old and new mates, get out walking, drinking and chewing the fat. Leave places like this alone.

Found that the joints wont take much "impact" training like running, but cycling and walking regularly seem to do the trick.
Even being out in the garden, digging, moving around - can be healthy, because it gets you outside and away from the box. Definitely cut down the booze - if not cut it out completely - an walk more places than using the car. Swimming is great for all round tone and muscle. Take-aways and late night meals tend to turn to fat. Try something more healthy like fresh chicken and salad. Its up to the individual what they do. A word of advice might be - dont try to change your lifestyle all in one go - do it gradually and it`l make your goals more realistic and achieveable.
Good luck

If your going to starve yourself to death which is a seriously bad idea, then at least make sure pretty much everything you eat is nutritient dense

Not sure how you can get enough of what your body needs on one meal a day, especially in regard to protein synthesis

DDPY worked for me, can’t be bothered going to the gym, just roll out the yoga mat, pick the length and difficulty of what I feel like on that day and do it.
Started off on the beginner level workouts, followed the plan and now up to advanced level and burning around 400 calories in about 30 to 35 minutes.
Two dog walks a day on top of that helps as well.
I was 15 1/2 stone when I started and now hovering around 12 1/2 to 13 stone.
Made a few dietary changes but I can’t do anything like fasting as the tablets I’m on for my MS mean I need some protein for breakfast and dinner when I take them, otherwise they can knacker my stomach.

Thanks everyone for your advice and kind words, it's certainly been an interesting read. I'm currently working abroad but the place I'm at has excellent gym facilities. The outside temperature is currently 42° so walking/ jogging outdoors is pretty much impossible. So I've started with a gentle mixture of cardio and resistance for the first week to see how I get on.
I've also taken a good look at what I eat and particularly what I drink. I feel a lot more positive than did two weeks ago.
Thanks again everyone, hope you're all well.........I'll keep you posted.....UTB !!!!

I know what you mean about temperatures. It is supposed to be more than 40 degrees where I live in Spain for the next 3 days. Thank goodness the pilates studio has aircon.

if you ever want a free tailored 4,6 or 8 week plan just get in touch and I can make you one, whether it’s physical, nutrition or both.

Cut down on beer (or give it up), processed food (including white bread, white rice, white pasta etc) and sugar.
Do lots of walking (I have a dog so I'm out twice a day). I find intentional exercise (gym etc) really boring so I just walk as much as possible.
And create only good karma.

Happy birthday! (I'm also heading for 60.. this weekend).

Don't know if its been mentioned already , but if you can get a dog 3/4 brisk walks per day is a very low impact way of loosing weight whilst doing something that you would be doing anyway and the dog will love you for it too

Try the Simon Waterson 10 week plan book, think Amazon have it cheap.
He's trained loads of actors etc
Uses the 5/2 method. Really effective and only about 20 mins cardio blended with body weight exercise and a few weights / bands etc...

Doesn't demand dieting, just moderation and try to cut out bad stuff / treats etc.
