Ex Forces don't count for any help according to Sunak

I think I was there about the same time on det with our Radar. The Dutch were itching for a fight with anyone who got in their way or looked at them at all. There was plans to shift them to Troodos but it never happened, I think that's when Bloodhound Camp came into being.
I'm glad we were only there a couple of days on the way back, but that was by accident, wasn't a forced break from diving back into civvy life at home etc. Think the dutch marines were there like a week, for each set. Must have been a nightmare for the permanent staff (and their kids), they were genuinely worried.

Saying that, when I got back, loads of army and UK marines were back about the same time that summer/ autumn too, and they had extremely short fuses when they came back. Was like a group of heavily tanned social hand grenades.

That's one of the main reasons I left, too many people happy to do things the wrong way, like lemmings.

I can understand why people thought like "I'm just a soldier" though, as anyone who wanted to make things better and more efficient was sort of looked at like they're wrong for being right, because some other dude with zero experience says it's better to do it the wrong way, because that's the way it's always been done in other places.

It was like there was absolutely zero self accountability, as you basically just blame the procedure or whoever is higher up the chain, and you're not allowed self accountability or to think for yourself. So you do it their way, which is wrong, and then something goes wrong, and then because something went wrong the punishment just gets passed down and down and down, and eventually to the person who was trying to avoid it all along, it's weird.

The promotion system was a mess too, good people getting held in position and rank, as they were extremely valuable where they were at (so they get low scores, or their progression dragged out), and others being given high ratings to get rid of them, so promoted off elsewhere  So then some other unfortunate place gets a supercharged idiot to come in and wreck the place.

People getting promoted based on time, not on ability, was an absolute sickener.
I’m unsure of when you left Andy but those processes were no longer the case when I left.

The Army really had swept up their promotion on merit rather than time served and I left a while ago now.

...I joined up on the understanding I could be called for 'active duty; and no I never saw 'active service' but I made a commitment to do that if necessary...most armed forces personnel are paid a pitance for the sacrifices they make/made.....I left the armed forces and never asked or was given anything upon leaving...I had to live with my mate or I had nowhere to live.. I worked my socks off to gain meaningful employment and the only positive for me was employers knew I came from a background that was used to discipline and taking orders. I agree that police and NHS staff should be given more pay/respect for the job they do.
It does stagger me how other in countries like America....you are thanked for your service.....and there's an understanding of the commitment you've made.. yet some people on here think ex forces are entitled?...only the officers thought they were entitled.... just like the upper class...working class like meself have never felt entitled and the only thing I got out of it was a veterans railcard.

I dont know any that will claim any sort of entitlement or expect preferential treatment...and I don't expect anyone to thank me for my service.
I can't speak for the Army or the Air Force but I found the resettlement that I was given on leaving the RN was very good. helpful and more than useful.
There is a lot of help out there, but some of the leavers will be too proud and reluctant to ask for help.
But it is there.

The RAF resettlement is/was also very good, plenty of opportunity to go to job fairs with off work. Laptops provided if required while you were on a course.
