EV cars why are so many ugly SUVs

Drivers are child killers; they are much more efficient child killers in SUVs than in smaller cars.

I dont disagree with that, but claiming that a car is a child killer absolves the driver who is the real person at fault here. You see it all the time "car crashes into school" etc with no mention of the idiot behind the wheel who is at fault.

Both false. oK Ev cost legacy makers more to make, but not new manufacturers. And the battery thing is utterly completely false. Look at how much space is in a Tesla compared to other cars in the same class. My model 3 is not a big car but the cabin is huge. The front has a "boot" where and ICE would have an engine and the boot is deep, where an ICE would have a fuel tank.

The only reason is SUVs sell.

The OPs typical anti EV post is, like many of the anti Ev tropes, not a problem unique to EV.

Makers of sleek, good looking sports cars such as Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Maserati have all made hideous SUVs, ruining their brand image to make money. Even the classy Rolls Royca and Bentley have made them.

So no, not and EV problem a car industry problem.
Regarding the last bit I agree. The massive premium SUVs by Porsche and the others you mention are so classless and hideous it's unreal. Like they've been designed specifically for the money but no taste market. I love a classy but subtle car, and they seem to be dying out. Each to their own i suppose

They're getting much nicer. There are quite a few I've seen when out walking the dog and I have to say that the Audi etron GT and Cupra Born are very good looking cars in my opinion.
Check out the nio EP 9!

Also, whilst it is very very far from being a good looking car, I'm test driving a BMW i4 tomorrow. Certianly not an SUV

Yes but you get what he means and the facts are well publicised. If you assume SUV drivers aren't worse drivers than normal car drivers (i.e. a statistically level playing field) then the figures for SUVs are awful in comparison.

It honestly makes me sad. Its a tough one though isn't it: without the Aston Martin DBX there would be no Aston Martin. But with it, what's the point of a brand like Aston Martin? Catch 22

I quite like the MG4 The electric Mini Cooper is cool as well but they'll be changing early 2024
Yeah and the mini Cooper certainly doesn't have bulky batteries! It barely has any.
The sadly discontinued Honda e and the brand new Ora funky cat hit the cute small hatchback marks. Not to mention theres an electric fiat 500. Nio seem to be the first car company to want to produce and estate too with the ET5 touring and of course Rivian, Tesla, Ford, Hummer, Chevy, GMC, RAM are all making electric pick ups.

There's plenty of variety in the EV market. It's just that ugly, dynamically flawed, needlessly big SUVs sell. Regardless of the drivetrain

It's pretty much happening immediately i think, or that was the impression i got from the article i read. Imagine Volve not making an estate.
Obviously it's driven by commercial value and consumer preference, but for me an SUV just doesn't tick the boxes i want so it's not great (for me) that so many manufacturers are concentrating on that market
Same for me i like estate cars and that option is practically gone ev wise. BMV seem to one of the few manufacturers who are sticking to classic designs with their saloons instead because of battery size we have overblown suvs and ugly crossovers.

I hate to belabour the point but it ISN'T because of battery size

The SUVs I've driven seemed small on interior space and boot space for the size of the vehicle.

Some of them do. I had an e-Pace and could barely fit anything else in after we'd put my daughters pram in the boot. With the XC90 I can practically fit the pram shop into the boot (with the additional 2 seats down) which is why I bought it.

Tesla model x? Sorry it just isn't en EV problem look at a properly built EV and you'll so how much space there is. The issue is (and its not an SUV thing) legacy designers who aren't hyundai keep their old ICE platforms. So the compromises they made for engines and driveshafts and exhausts and fuel tanks still remain. Even when they are no longer necessary. Ever got in a BMW i4 or a XC40 electric? They bith have transmission tunnels in them. With no transmission.

Aren't most cars ugly? They are built that way so we can get in and out of them and have somewhee to put the shopping.

No. They shouldn't be and they never were. SUVs have really destroyed the aesthetic of vehicles. Designers use to create sleek classy designs. Now it how tall can we make it or how many swoops and scoops can we put on them

Thats very much an opinion ST. One I don't agee with, obviously. Sleek classy designs? Really, like every 2000 saloon, they were all identical. From the 40's the beetle? From the 60's and 70's we had a whole host of large saloons that looked the same, scepters, all anglias looked the same.

There are some gorgeous cars around, but not for general use. Jaguar make a couple of reasonable looking cars, but other than that you have to go back to the ford capri for an attractive everyday driver.

Ah sorry I was responding to your orig9nal comment about all cars being designed simply for carrying stuff around. We'd all be driving old land rovers if that was the case. Cars could be designed with flare. SUV clearly can't as even maseratti, Bentley and Aston Martin have failed. It's sad that people sacrifice style for something overly big with a "high driving position"
