Essex pub replace 'Golliwog' collection seized by police

I listened to Bernie interviewing Chubby Brown recently. He went into some detail about why the P word is ok as the Paki- part of Pakistan means “pure”, and if he could educate himself about that then so should everyone else. He totally misses the point and Bernie didn’t disagree with him. It was all very uncomfortable.

I’ve not really paid attention to the news on this. Reading here - is it illegal or not and if not then why did the police confiscate them?

Slaven isn't clever enough to challenge him. He's quickly becoming a parody of Morrissey with his animal rights posting, and arguably with some of his "you can't say anything without being called woke these days" type posts.

I actually really enjoy some of Bernie's interviews and I think he connects with a lot of Teessiders and/or ex-Boro players very well. He is a bit of a Grandad on some of the political/societal stuff, but I don't think there is any ill-feeling in any of it. He is big mates with Chris McGlade who is very much from the Chubby Brown school of art.

That's sort of my point, he likes to think of himself as a "thinker", a social commentator or whatever, but he's not actually that bright and some comes across as a walking version of the Daily Mail.

..and there's my other point. He, with his support of either comedian and lack of challenge of their views, he's aligning himself with the type of people who believe you should be free to say anything, and offend anyone, you fancy all in the name of free speech.

pleased to see the pub got vandalised over the weekend

Enid Blyton was massively racist. Not just in Noddy books. I loved the Famous Five and Secret Seven as a kid and happy memories of reading those books are now tainted by the person the author was.
My Nana actually had a book called 'The Three Golliwogs' by Enid Blyton and the characters names were Golly, Woggy and N***er. The whole premise of the stories was that the Golliwogs all looked the same and kept getting mixed up with each other!

I find him pretty closed minded, same views he will have had 40 years ago. He seems like a man confused by the world he inhabits and instantly rejecting societal change, despite in his younger days being the one who shouted for change.

We should always listen to the ideas of the youth, it's their world to inherit not ours, we had ideas for a better more tolerant world than our parents, and likewise the sub-30s of today have their views on shaping the world.

I'm not entirely sure chubby brown and art should be unified in a sentence mind. We don't need intellectualise the puerility, misogyny and racism of 80s working class culture. It is what it is, a relic of a bygone era and shouldn't be redefined.

That does sound pretty racist like.

You think?
I was being sarcastic, of course it is. But there was also a time when this sort of thing went largely unchallenged, and that can only be because most people agreed with it, or didn't feel strongly about it or that it was harmful. She is literally one of the most famous writers of all time.

I've actually just googled that book and it looks familiar, I'm genuinely now considering if it was on a bookshelf from my childhood! Fetches £75+ on Amazon.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic too.

At the time late 70's it didn't seem racist to me, but then I was only about 8
