I saw this reported elsewhere over the weekend without naming the pub. I've just checked it out and it's actually the sort of pub I would happily walk into if I didn't know any different. It's in the latest CAMRA Good Beer Guide and looks like it has been for years. The description in the Guide says, "An extensive collection of old-fashioned soft toys is displayed on the historic bar-back." Some real questions need asking of CAMRA here, I think.

I think it’s very difficult to police the views of each individual who reviews on behalf of CAMRA. I’m hugely against this pub displaying those dolls but it doesn’t surprise me that some old bloke who likes that pub has neglected to attribute appropriate severity to their display.

I drink in one of the most warm, welcoming and community minded pubs in the country when I’m back home ỉn Stockton but I knows there’s a few people who might not have dolls like this but might defend the rights of a private individual to display them, they could also be involved with CAMRA. I think just about anyone can if they have the time and inclination to throw themselves at it.

Pubs don't get in the Good Beer Guide simply on the nomination of a single individual. They are recommended by branches. This pub was the Branch Pub of the Year in 2020 and has been on a number of occasions in the past. That's not a case of one individual thinking the display is OK.
 
The people who still cling to those stupid dolls baffle me.

Even if you did genuinely believe they weren't racist, why would you continue to display them when so many people think they are?

In this case, the simplest answer is probably that the pair are just racist to begin with, but I don't know why so many people won't just let them go.

They look dreadful anyway.

I suppose I wasn't even born when they were popular, but still.

what have the licensing people said on the matter, surely they should take a stance on such behaviour .
 
I would argue she is the snowflake being upset that she was told she couldn't display some daft dolls. Even apologising to people that they weren't there like they are providing people with extra happiness for being there.

Anyone with any sense knows that Gollywogs aren't appropriate nowadays, for this woman to double down in this way shows she is a massive crank.

I think it will inevitably polarise the customer base, which is great, keep all the racist halfwits in one place away from the rest of normal society.

Got into a ‘discussion’ on Twitter over Lozza foxes take on it where he attacked adil ray for calling out the landlord…

Some guy replied that adil ray didn’t suffer racist abuse as a younger person because it was acceptable back then.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

He’s a career coach and couldn’t see what he was saying was just wrong?

Lozza fox also intimated that the IK couldn’t be racist because the establishment bestowed an OBE on him.. the guy is thicker than a whale sandwich..
