England v Italy 7:45pm

Tough game tonight. As was mentioned on the Germany thread, the last (and pretty much only) time we have beaten Italy in a competitive match was the World Cup qualifier in 1977.

I'd love us to win.

Surely we can't play as badly as we have in the previous two matches.

A good chance for revenge after last summer, and we probably need a result to keep us in contention to win the group.

Foden is back, Kane is 3 goals off equalling the record.

Probably hammer them and it will emphasise how bad of a result the euros final was.
We got off to a pretty good start in that match. Should have made it count more while they were rattled.

Pretty amazing that Italy have failed to qualify for another World Cup! Losing to North Macedonia is worse than our result against Iceland isn't it?! :ROFLMAO:

Behind closed doors, I believe. Are we doing what Hungary said and filling Wembley with 90,000 25 year old schoolkids?

It's at Molineux.

There'll be a limited attendance though, yeah.

I would have preferred us to avoid using the loophole and accept the punishment fully, we deserve it.

Ah right. Those people at Wembley won't be happy... 🤣

Agree on the second point, though. It is fully deserved.

We didn't play badly against Germany, they're a very good team

These are proper games for England and it's the best thing about the Nations League. No pointless friendlies that loads of players don't bother with.

I hope Southgate doesn't play Mason Mount on the left of a front three again. It hasn't worked against the best teams at any point.

It was a missed opportunity undoubtedly, but Italy were unbeaten in 30 odd games, which I believe was the longest run ever in the history of international football, it was never going to anything but very difficult.

Sorry joey but this is nonsense. Italy were on the back of a winning steak over about 2 years. It was always going to be a tough game. Tonight will also be tough. England too shade it for me, probably by 1 goal, maybe a second late on.

Why are we still playing football in mid June? The new season is only a couple of weeks away.

MFC, England and occasionally Guisborough are my teams but surely we need a break.

Saying that I haven't watched any football since the end of the season.

We've always played internationals in June.

Indeed they were mate but it was essentially a home game for us, we had chances and should have been comfortably ahead by half time. We sat back and looked like sitting ducks and the inevitable happened. After that we never looked like winning the game. A golden opportunity missed, I follow England and the defeats still very raw so my views more emotional than factual but hopefully a good win tonight.

You are right that the early goal and dominance wasn't capitalised on. We were playing a very good side though, who clearly had a say.

Let's hope for the win tonight.

Along with the 2006 UEFA Cup Final the European Championship Final was the most gutted I've been.
