England generally. OMG

If England put in another dire performance against Germany think he’ll be gone. This is more than just a slump in form.

Odd choices don’t help him. Maguire and Sterling haven’t been great for their clubs recently yet start all the time.
If Saka is the best option to start at left wing back tonight then he’s not picked his squad properly, call up someone who actually regularly plays there. Seems mad to try and get players to play new positions at international level when coaches have so little time with the players.

Nations League has been a write-off and we’ve had problems with creativity all the way through Southgate’s time. Remember we only got to the WC semi by pretty much scoring only corners and set pieces.

Hard to know if it’s the players or Gareth’s caution, or a bit of both, because there’s not much I’d change about his personnel. We’re not good enough in midfield so need the two holding midfielders, and not good enough in defence so we need the 3 centre backs. So you run out of attacking options. You could try Trent, but he can’t defend. If Grealish started in the middle we’d get overrun.

Gareth has an unbelievable amount of credit in the bank though. WC semi and EUROs final is so much more than any other England manager has achieved since the 60s, even Bobby Robson and El Tel didn’t get us to a final. He changed the whole mood around England and got the nation to fall back in love with this team. Memories are short. On record alone, he’s been one of the best England managers ever.

He’s absolutely earned the right to take us into this World Cup and choose the time of his own departure. And a bloke of his unbelievable integrity, he won’t hang around when he knows it’s time to leave.

Lamps as caretaker manager?? Jesus.

No chance with the World Cup so close . It would **** up preparations big time

Quite a few people who thought we’d have a chance this World Cup as we got to the euro finals last time are sadly in for a rude awakening . Our chance to win a tournament was the last euros or World Cup. Sadly that chance has gone . We already peaked sadly . Bud Southgate will go after this tournament

Rice the crab
Zero dynamism all around the team….
Southgate now brings on our most creative player in grealish chasing the game
Honestly, you could see it coming
Southgate is utterly useless and a boring idiot who cannot pick the right team
Southgate has a gem in Bellingham and plays a team of terrified over rated so and so’s
Foden. Never does anything
Neither does sterling

But what a football crime to not play our most talented player aside from Bellingham

Southgate is an utter bell end
95% of the people on here hailed him as a football management god.
He was utter shyte for us and he's no better for England

He is a yes man. That’s why he got the job at boro and then England. Does as he is told, without question, by those above him.

Glad he lifted that trophy for Boro.

His loyalty to Sterling is perplexing. A couple of tap-ins at the Euros and he's undroppable in perpetuity. At least it looks as if Rashford and Sancho are coming back into form, so at least that gives him options. He also needs Mount to start firing for his club. And Bellingham is a plus; it's him and one other now by the looks of it.

It's staggering how much the team has regressed but the same old problem appears to be the reason: too many technically limited players. We just don't seem to breed those players who are brave on the ball - but we have lots of players who look very stylish playing no-risk square passes. Even players who do show for the ball - Foden (push him onto his right foot); Grealish (doesn't get his head up, no pace or trick) - are relatively easy to take out of the game.

Even if - a big if - England manage to limp out of their group, they'll get Senegal (the best team in Africa) or a dynamic and improving Holland. Right now, with a clueless attack and a ponderous defence, you'd back them to lose against either of those, never mind a probable quarter against France/Argentina...

it was like watching boro of late. Couldnt even see what they were trying to do. Over complicated sterile rubbish
Especially the system England started with yesterday was exactly like watching Boro, with a lot of the same shortcomings; pedestrian midfield, fullbacks as centre halves, creative threats nullified as wingbacks, no central creativity, forwards feeding on scraps.

Most people will judge his future on this next tournament. These players shine at club level alongside some tremendous foreign talents and I honestly don't know who could get them to win a trophy, but if they play as England 0 in Qatar, then he'll possibly be shepherded to another role in the FA.

Between the Ronaldinho goal and Southgate's appointment, England would breeze through most qualifiers and friendlies before effectively going on strike during tournaments.

Southgate has two tournament runs under his belt, regardless of your opinion of the opposition. Would we discount a Boro FA Cup final this year if we played non-PL teams?
