OK
Germany - I think everybody would agree that this is the worst Germany team that we have seen for many, many years and they should have been put to bed early on.
As is so often the case with England - they just cannot pass it out from the back. They can pass sideways, and backwards, and to the keeper, and hoof it forward, but they can't pass into midfield and go from there (like pretty much every other team can). Probably because in Rice and Phillips they don't have great passers of the ball, they're defensive midfielders, not Paul Scholes types. And when an England player did look for a forward pass, there was no movement and nobody to pass to. So it was pass backwards, or hoof it, or lose it.
The only time they got the ball forward was by intercepting or cashing in on bad play by Germany and their mistakes, rather than by creating something themselves. And very often, instead of taking a positive step forward from a breakup in play, they played safety first, and went backwards. Back to the goalkeeper, and another eventual hoof. It was painful to watch. Literally painful, after having watched so many other teams play so well during this tournament.
Now you go and tell me how that was such a good game. You must be easily pleased.
