Have we ever had a player who tries to get rid of the ball as soon as they get it as Engel?

Some of his first time passes decisions yesterday were beyond mental.

Has some good attributes but he is one of the most frustrating players I have ever watched for Boro.

Think he has to be back up next season.

Decision making is a huge attribute that often separates the best players from the average/inconsistent. Engel did make some poor decisions yesterday but he wasn't the only one, Ayling on the other side was also very loose with his passing.

Engel seems to be either brilliant or awful with little in between. Hopefully he can improve next year with the benefit of a year in the championship under his belt, however like you I fear he may be a back up option.

I do wonder whether the club will be tempted to go for Giles again in the summer if Hull don't go up (as I can't see them taking the option to buy if they don't go up). Kieran Scott said in one of his interviews this season, I think it was with the 12th Man that they'd discussed him an awful lot this season. His quote was something like "his name has been mentioned a lot in our corridors".

Last year so much of our best attacking play came from him down the left and it's clear those behind the scenes really rate him, but it'd be a big financial outlay.

Yeah I think he’s got certain attributes but does too many stupid things within a game that make him more a back up than someone you count on. Trying first time passes from the touch line on a volley and it going straight out of play was the lowlight for me. Just control the ball get it down and compose yourself. Has next to no composure at times.

I’d love Giles back too

Yeah I noticed there was a moment during the 2nd half where he had time to control the ball but tried to touch it on to a team-mate instead and I think he put it out of play.

He played a couple of clever inside balls during the 1st half but he needs to take better care of the ball generally.

My biggest gripe is his positioning when we attack. If stood 5 yards further forward he wouldn't need to beat his man as the centre backs are pretty good at balls in behind. Whether he is told to be more circumspect I don't know. But just being a little less risk averse would make a huge difference.

It is clear that the other players just do not trust him with the ball. Frequently he is the obvious and easiest pass but the other players dont trust him and play it to someone else.

I thought he had decent first half, defended well, got wide which gave us space, played some really crisp inside passes which were accurate and clever.
Second half he missed a few, (one which made him look poor) the first time pass down the line.
The one on the break were he was trying to find Azaz (I have watched it back) was actually really good defending from the Blackburn player, he slide and gets a toe on it.

He was doing ok in the first half... I dont know what Carrick said to him at half time but it looked like someone had kidnapped him and replaced him with a lookalike who couldnt play footy in the 2nd half

Hope Bangura is back soon and manages to get a run in the team, he might not have a good first touch or ever look fully in control but his pace is something else, anything that can get us up the pitch quicker is much needed. Sometimes we are way too ponderous and reluctant to take a gamble.

I would offer Luton, all three of Engel, Bangura and Coulson for Ryan Giles, don't see anything from any of them to suggest they are good enough to be first choice in a team challenging for promotion unfortunately, however, I would be extatic to be proven wrong!
