End for Cummings ?

Yes agree with others that he should be booted out now. Trouble is he’s done the damage he was appointed to do and I have a feeling this action is after Pandora’s evils have been let Free from the box.

I think this has wider implications and I take this as a further indication that Johnson will not be Prime Minister beyond the 1Q 2021, Johnson has so aligned himself with Cummings as shown by his backing of him during the lockdown, when a lot of Party and public opinion was that he should go, this would indicate that Johnson relies heavily on Cummings to function.

I don't think Johnson has any real political ideology, as such, beyond using politics as a vehicle to promote Brand Boris and is heavily reliant on those around him to test the political litmus, his Brexit stance is full of contradictions from earlier in his career which would indicate he had no real conviction in this belief beyond opportunism to further his own career and feed the beast of Prime Ministerial ambition which he has long felt entitled.

Perhaps Johnson has had a Damascene moment and realised that instead of being the conductor of the orchestra he's merely arranging the strings, maybe this will be a new beginning and the end of Boris the bumbling public school misfit and the start of Johnson as a serious politician, dedicated to his duty, but I suspect this is just another step leading to an announcement that he is stepping down, exhausted by the after effects of Covid and in need of a break to spend time with his young family, an honorable discharge instead of the full court martial of a leadership challenge without Cain and Cummings by his side.

As for Cummings, once those that are supposed to be controlling the noise become the noise then their days are numbered, I think sometimes we can all confuse difference with brilliance and if we ever do that to ourselves then that is not a good place for the ego, he's not suited to being in the limelight and by all accounts is an abrasive and difficult person to work with, I suspect he'll reappear somewhere soon in a different guise, perhaps as Gove's leadership campaign manager, Johnson will either leave by his own hand or face a leadership challenge as the power vacuum left by the departure of Cain and Cummings is pounced up by others with ambition.

Very reasoned account there AM.

But on the subject of Gove I dont get his “stock”. He has zero empathy with the British public aside from the hardliner right wing Tories. He has been exposed a s a back stabbing schemer and the public dont trust him. I know its not his fault but he looks like somebody you wouldn't trust an inch.

If it wasn't for the damage he could do, I'd almost hope Gove walks into his shoes. The next election would be a doddle for Starmer.

Gove looks more like his spitting image puppet than the puppet, not that good looks should be a prerequisite for PM, but unfortunately how you look does effect the electorate.

Michel Foot might have disagreed there, but anyway.

The question is, what is Demonic Cummings up to next, and don’t doubt he already knows.

To be honest my first thought was that Johnson was clearing out the euro sceptics in an attempt to get a last minute deal to facilitate a deal with the USA given Biden won the election. I understand that a trade deal with USA, even under Trump would have been problematic, but perhaps Johnson thought Trump could somehow force it through if he had won the election.

Johnson doesn't really care about the EU one way or the other and simply used the leave vote to get himself into no 10. I wonder now if he is seeing a no deal with the EU and the USA and suddenly realizing how badly wrong this could go.

He wanted out of the EU, I suspect, to then sell the NHS to the states and make a shed load of cash in the process. That now looks unlikely unless he can get a deal in place with the EU. What happens with the internal market bill will tell us a lot in the next few days. If it is shelved instead of re submitted to the lords with the dubious clauses re-inserted, it means a deal with the EU is very much on, probably just to facilitate a deal with the US. If the internal market bill is re-submitted with clauses intact, it would mean no US deal.
You do wonder just how much Trump’s defeat has influenced this bust up, and what exactly was lined up with him involving the NHS.
