End for Cummings ?

The damage Cummings has has done is beyond repair, just not sure how it could ever get any worse, although I've no doubt it can. Tories never fail to displease, especially if you're up North. It's going to be even worse if it's North East, even going by the Tories own brexit predictions.

The thing is, a daft part of me kind of wants Cummings and Bojo to stay in place, as it might improve the chances of getting shot of the Tories at the next election?

All the names banded about in this thread as replacements for Boris make me feel sick (equal to Boris), other than maybe Sunak who seems to have some competence and at least he looks concerned when he speaks. The thing is, who would the racists vote for if Sunak was PM?

Dont be fooled by Sunak. The only thing he has over the others is he comes across better. One of, if not the richest member of the Cabinet and former investment banker. No chance he has the best interests of the average person at heart, it's all about him. And of course quite happy to roll over and let Cummings call all the shots for him (something Javid wouldn't agree to) in exchange for a promotion he'd never have got under a competent PM. Hardly leadership material. In fact anyone agreeing to serve in this sham of a Cabinet is clearly unfit for the job.

Oh, I'm not fooled, but didn't realise he was one of the richest. See, I don't doubt his competence, but haven't looked into him in any great detail. Was more saying the first impressions of him seem better than the others, but that certainly doesn't make him good, he might just be less bad. As with any of them, I doubt their morals and wonder where their allegiance lies.

I suspect this is fall out from Trump. Johnson knows "No Deal" is no longer a viable option, he cannot get any sort of deal with the US if we create a hard border in Ireland. Any US-UK Trade Deal is not a priority for Biden (even assuming it was with Donny), the Biden administration wants to work with the EU.

Put simply he is looking at some negotiated deal with the EU that gives us access to the Customs Union and Single Market, though it will have to be given a name that makes the Leavers thinking that we have got a "great" deal. We might even get Freedom of Movement back...

The white flag will wave over Downing Street. (I hope)

I hope so, I really do. But that would of course be a sensible, pragmatic way forward that protects the economy at a time when it's at its most vulnerable but still "delivers brexit". Which is why it probably won't happen.

Whatever the ins and outs of the situation the Conservative Party is at war and at a time when all focus should be on navigating a way out of the Covid pandemic and trying to negotiate the best withdrawal agreement with the EU we have the unedifying sight of a Made In Westminster 'reality' show being played out in an infantile 'he said, she said' tabloid tableau.

The lack of leadership is as alarming as it is unsurprising, Johnson has lost control, but not just of the Party he leads, as many others have before, but of those he appoints outside of government to help maintain a semblance of order which is without precedence, his reliance on those around him is evident by the bereft figure he cuts as one by one the rats desert the sinking ship or as he is forced into corner after corner by a factionalised bunch of ex-journalists and aides who have no interest in the goings on of the rank file of this country, nor the hardships of lockdown, but only to protect their own position in the circus.

The division of a country split by Brexit and unable to heal through Covid is fertile ground for propagation of destructive ideology, that cannot be allowed to happen, what is needed is a unifying force and someone with a competence that far outshines any entrenched dogma; of those around Jeremy Hunt is probably the most obvious candidate to restore some sort of order to the 18 months of chaos that many of us feared would be the Johnson method of governance and to try to tip the balance away from the edges of disorder into something approaching equilibrium.

I can see Lee Cain popping up at the 'Reform Party' next to 'Giz-a-quid-to-kick-a-Kurd' Nige Farage to cause maximum disruption. It's all these oh-so-clever dicks are capable of - total war, at all times, never ending chaos, so no-one ever really has to ask "just what exactly is it that you do for your salary, apart from harry interns in their 20s?"

Yeah, that's pretty much as I thought it.

I've been celebrating the Trump loss for days, along with many of my mates on various chats etc. I think it will be good for our trade with the EU and will also hopefully help tame the far right in this country, and maybe also might help undermine the tories.

I've also had tons of people (mainly ex forces) asking why I care so much about Trump losing though, and them saying they don't care at all. They have zero idea how much that country has influence over us and our future, which is strange considering loads of them went to wars to help the US (like me)! They're mainly all hard brexiters though, which is strange as most of them work abroad and have only got their opportunities due to us working with the EU and our joint export deals. They're all well of though, so even any brexit pain won't hurt them

Don’t know about Rishi‘s own family but his wife is from one of the richest families in India.
