Empathetic refereeing

This is Mowbray's quote, courtesy of BBC Sport:

"A derby, over 40,000 people, and he gives a red card for gesticulating at him. That seems pretty harsh to me."

Well yes, it would be, had that happened. But he actually gave a yellow card. The fact that it was his second yellow card is neither here nor there.
And I don't think it was for 'gesticulating'.
Unless he means verbally gesticulating with a potty mouth.

No it shouldn't encourage players to be more reckless.
It just lets them know that he's not going to stop the game every 2 minutes for stupid little niggly things.
Still going to operate the laws that say if you tell the ref to fcuk off, then so will you.
Which is funny as he was reacting to a non existent foul on Jack Clarke. Very ironic, "I'll try and let the game flow, oh you just ran towards me and swore at me for doing just that, off you go son". Idiotic.

Mowbray complaining the referee was meant to be empathetic by allowing his players to swear at him, but within the same interview complaining about Crooks / Smith not getting booked for relatively soft offences is quite the contradiction.

You can’t have it both ways. If Crooks / Smith should have been booked, then Neil should have definitely be sent off first time round.

Naive from DN. What was he ever going to achieve from that petulant little outburst? He gave the ref a decision to make.

I imagine behind closed doors Mogga is reading him the riot act.

Dissent is a booking if the referee follows the rules, which he did. I’m not really sure how anyone can argue that.

Anger should be directed at the player on a yellow to told the ref to **** off. Not sure what he expected

It's lacking class from Mowbray, disappointing from him.

He could easily have said he thought it was harsh, without making out it was all the referees fault because of something he said before the game. It's actually a bit petulant, which isn't a good look

He's also a bit of hypocrite given the eye rolling and subtle digs about Warnock's behaviour when we've played his teams before.

Neil could have been off after the first tackle he got a card for.
Having said that we could have been down to 10 a minute later. I don't think Coburn elbowed ballard but he went in to hurt him not to win the ball. Could have been yellow carded for that and 20 seconds later he tried but luckily failed to stick the head in on one of their players.
I really like the lad but Carrick needs to point out to him what can happen to a team that has someone sent off.

I felt Neil spoiled the game by getting himself sent off.

It takes the shine off the thrashing knowing it was against 10.

He certainly got frustrated, Ballard had pocketed him to be honest. Coburn wanted to leave a little on him, but it wasn't dangerous play. The headbutt thing, I'm 50-50 on that, I'm not entirely sure he rtied to stick the head on someone, but it was aggression. I'm not sure there was enough for a straight red there as he didn't endanger anyone or try to striker anyone. It could very easily have turned into that though or been interpreted that way.
