Empathetic refereeing

Just all a bit odd isn't it? Why on earth would the referee say that anyway.

Basically "appreciate this might be a highly charged atmosphere, don't worry I plan to let loads of stuff go". How does telling the managers that help in any way shape or form? Wouldn't it just encourage players to be more reckless?

Also hilarious Mowbray seems to think that meant his players were allowed to swear at the ref. As if any ref is going to say that before a match. Feel free to crack on with the abuse lads, I'm reffing this one empathetically. 😂.

Love Mowbray, but he hasn't half come out with some utter nonsense after matches against us over the years.

No it shouldn't encourage players to be more reckless.
It just lets them know that he's not going to stop the game every 2 minutes for stupid little niggly things.
Still going to operate the laws that say if you tell the ref to fcuk off, then so will you.

I think the ref meant to say I am going to be rubbish throughout the game. He made some awful decisions and spoilt the game with the sending off. I felt sorry for Sunderland and their fans, on any other day, he would have been spoken to by the ref and the game carried on with 11 v 11 and Sunderland would have made a fist of it.

Only kidding, I love beating Sunderland under any circumstances. ;)

Jesus christ al I thought you were going soft in your old age

The phrase "empathetic" is an odd one. I guess he means that he is prepared to understand that you might get some crunching tackles and some physical stuff? I don't suppose he meant "feel free to call me anything you like lads"? Perhaps he did, who knows?

Regardless, Neil could easily have gone for the studs up challenge on Coburn just before. Marching towards the referee waving your arms and swearing at him when you are on a yellow...

I mean what is the worst that could happen...

Mowbray (as we know from his time at Blackburn) has to say what his employers and supporters expect him to. He ain't going to join in with the celebrations at the end and chant "Up The Boro!" even if he wanted to.

The thing is - he had already booked Greenwood for dissent - so he was just being consistent.

Other than Jones being offside - I would still think more decisions went their way
Jones booking - wrong
O'Nien wrestling with Fry in the box - no action
O'Nien pushed Crooks in the box - no action taken
O'Nien pushed Coburn in the box - no action
O'Nien wrestling and tripping Latte Lath during breakaway for Jones's goal - no action taken.

These are the ones I can remember, I am sure there will be more.

This is Mowbray's quote, courtesy of BBC Sport:

"A derby, over 40,000 people, and he gives a red card for gesticulating at him. That seems pretty harsh to me."

Well yes, it would be, had that happened. But he actually gave a yellow card. The fact that it was his second yellow card is neither here nor there.

I'm sure we would all be kicking off and Carrick too if the shoe was on the other foot. I don't blame them for complaining.

At the end of the day the ref Refereed to the laws so u can't fault him. Unlucky seqgul shaggers play fair.

I would be more upset with Neil.
