Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

It's a garbage track & made for a pretty boring race. Hopefully they do something to prevent the DRS trains.

This is one of those tracks that is good to watch cars at in qualifying, but actually it does not deliver a good race. Even wet weather did not really spice it up.

I saw plenty of overtaking yesterday.
Did you watch the f2 race then :ROFLMAO: Bottas in a faster car than Russell: couldn't overtake, Ricciardo in a faster car than everyone he was racing, couldn't overtake. Only Leclerc in a significantly faster car and on much fresher tyres than his rivals at the end could overtake

Hang on a minute
Alex Albon in a Williams (slowest car on the grid allegedly) managed to overtake not only the GOAT but got Piere Gasly as well without the need of DRS to finish 11th in the race. Yuki (whatever his surname is) managed in the end to be flying along and overtook a few cars in the later stages of the race. Just like Leclerc was overtaking cars in the end after his crash into the barriers. George Russell started in 11th or was it 12th position and ended up 4th in a car that was just set up for the wet. So there must have been a few more overtakes than you are alluding too in the race and a lot of it was without DRS.

Did Albon though? Or was he on warm tyres, cruising past cars that were on ice cold tyres? I belive it was the undercut. So, essentially the guy with the red bull engine overtook someone and the championship leader with the fastest car managed to overtake slower cars with significantly faster tyres on.

Albon came into the pits behind Gasly and one lap before Hamilton. When Hamilton came out of the pits he was in front of Albon who I admit did have his tyres up to temperature and was then able to pass the Mercedes.

Because all the cars came into the pits for fresh rubber (probably about 4 laps too late in my opinion) over the course of 3 laps then there was always going to be a driver or two that gained an advantage and those that would lose out. But Hamilton was asked by the team if he wanted to come I for fresh rubber (when I think they should all have been coming in for fresh tyres) and he said no. If he had come in then I think he would have ended up in the points. Unfortunately for both Gasly and Hamilton, Albon was quick in a straight line (without the aid of DRS) so neither of them could catch him even when they had DRS to overtake him.

So, that'ss a long winded way of saying Albon was able to overtake Gasly. Fair enough: but one car overtaking another hardly proves that the track isn't terrible for ovetaking on, it is. And that can easily explain the delta between Hamilton stuck in dirty air and Russell in clean air.

In other words you were wrong with you said..... "Yes, in so far as you can't overtake"

But Russell (in a Mercedes and dirty air) managed to overtake Magnussen without the aid of DRS earlier in the race

For someone who claimed he wouldn't watch F1 this season he's watched an awful lot of it.

Also, quick Lando update, I got spangled last night with my winnings, he owes me a hangover cure.

Ah a Haas. OK. That's more like it! You can't seriously think Imola is a track you can overtake on? It really isn't. It's far too small and far too twisty. Even the DRS is zone is curved!
