Dwight Gayle move blocked by Gibbo

I'd say I'm in the minority but I was all for this signing to be honest. Proven pedigree at this level and managed 23 league goals two seasons ago at WBA.

He's had his injury problems yes but not every player deteriorates following injuries. If he can stay fit he will score goals at this level.

I just hope he doesn't end up going somewhere like Watford and scores a boatload and it comes back to haunt us.

If these £50K / week Prem Lge squad players actually want a game instead of sitting on the bench, we can offer them (say) £30K / week, with a £1 million bonus for promotion.

They therefor get there money, we get want we want 👍

He scored those 23 goals at West Brom 2018-19. That is 4 seasons ago now.

He is done.
Please God we are moving on.
2 seasons of scoring in his entire career. 4 years ago (23 for West Brom) and 6 years ago (23 for Ncle).
Only other time in double figures was at Posh (13) ten years ago.
26 goals in 145 matches in the seven other seasons in that decade.
If Gibson has stopped this then hats off!

Frankly our record of signing strikers - permanent or loan- is little short of abysmal. To turn our noses up for a striker who has a pedigree of scoring goals - albeit not in most recent times - I hope we have a list of goal scoring strikers ready and willing to come. Somehow……
Actually, our record of signing strikers with a pedigree for scoring goals at this level is decent. The problem is we turn them into donkeys.

In recent years we have signed Rhodes, Nugent, Bamford, Assombolonga, Gestede and only one of them did as well as expected despite scoring regularly for other teams.

I'm sure if he was on a free and wanted £4k a week for 12 months, there would be very little concern with him being over 30.
These websites look to dramatise stuff.
In reality Bauser, Scott etc have a budget and will be working within constraints on salaries. No way is Gibbo swooping in and blocking moves due to age etc. As you say it's all about invividual cases.
