Donald Trump - another irrelevance if he becomes president

Good but why leave it until now. Should have been all over this on jan 7th
They didn't "leave it until now" - they were more or less forced into a redrafting of the previous indictment to take account of the Supreme Court's recent presidential immunity ruling.

It's basically the same charges as in the case that was already before Judge Chutkan but with any reference to conversations with Jeffrey Clark and Mark Meadows removed, since these conversations would be covered by the new interpretation of presidential immunity issued by the Supreme Court.

Judge Chutkan was supposedly already in the process of reviewing the previous indictment to see if any parts of it might need to be struck down because of the Supreme Court decision. This new indictment just saves her the trouble of doing so.

I don’t understand how the whole case has dragged on so long, that’s more my point than why did they redraft, I get why they did that

If Trump has a single thing that he is successful at, it is raising objection after objection and thus delays for every legal case brought against him. One of his biggest issues now is that having not paid previous legal eagles none of the better ones will work for him & those that will want paying up front.

It’s his strategy - get everything delayed , then if he wins in November throw all charges out
Everything is about delaying things that don’t get thrown out now until after the election

He’s due for sentencing on the ‘hush money’ case on September 18th
In May, a New York jury found Trump guilty of 34 felony counts ...

It seems that once you have your opinion set nothing, including actual facts, can persuade you otherwise.
I guess it's why they are the least intelligent amoangt us. The thinkers have the capability to objectively review evidence and change their mind accordingly. The far right lack this cognitive ability. Hence why they can be swayed by ludicrous three word slogans and lack of substance.

The polls will largely be national won't they? The electoral college system complicates things - be interesting to see it broken down to the key swing states

Some of the USA shows are saying his current bunch of lawyers have quit over the new indictment - now that could mean they don't fancy the chances of overturning this one even with the supreme court lackeys, or he has forced them out to delay further.
