Dominic Shaw leaves the Gazette for The Northern Echo

I remember being on the Gazette’s sports desk for a week while at university and learning from the likes of Vickers and Tallentire. Learnt a lot in a short space of time, and I was a massive fan of AV’s work. There was another bloke, last name was Neal I believe, he covered other sports like Speedway, he helped me get my first printed article.

Glad I got to experience that at the time, I don’t think you could garner the same experience these days.

Today's news could now mean BBC Radio Tees and local radio could fall in the same way.
Will we soon be looking back at halcyon days of having a truly local media? You know when you could ring in a phone in or send an email and hear it read out - and not be competing against Newcastle, Sunderland fans to get a one minute airing about Middlesbrough losing at Preston.

Always like reading Dom's work. Great move for him going to the NE, they seem to have been on it regarding Boro for a good while now, and hopefully this news means we get more and more Boro coverage.

Never met Dom personally, but know a few who have, and he seems like a great lad. Really happy for him.

He's sound, a really top lad, and LOVES the Boro. Scott and Dom at the Echo is a strong pairing.
